August 23, 200619 yr Hi Gang, what does the Global Max Texture Size actually do,for example, I have tried using it at Massive and Medium, but I honestly haven't noticed any differences, so I was wondering what you guy's thought.I have tried it on the ground with my UK2000 sceneries, but again, I haven't noticed anything,I know that someone said that when they turned it down from massive to medium they noticed things disappear from the scenery display, but I did not notice this.any thoughts are welcome, as it is somewhat confusing to be honest.
August 23, 200619 yr It controls the maximum MIP level of textures used by the game. For example, cockpit textures are 1024x1024 pixels full size. With the setting at Massive the game tries load this resolution. At Medium it will load a 512x512 version of the texture to save video memory. Usually a good place to notice the difference is on a building like a hangar. Try different settings and you should see a difference in the sharpness of the texture.Caveat: with limited video memory you may not be able to laod the highest resolution regardless of the setting.
August 23, 200619 yr Author IIRC my card, a 9600XT these days is a bit long in the tooth, and it can handle 2048x2048, so unles you have a really old or cheap graphics card, there seems no reason to use other than massive setting. It seems like the 1024 textures are most common on aircraft, though maybe 25% or so scenery object textures are this size.scott s..
