August 28, 200619 yr Hello Simmers.I just came back yesterday from holiday and I can't believe that the demo ist out. Of course I have downloaded it immediately. Install went perfect. I have installed new drivers for my Radeon X800.After I click the fsx.exe icon a short windows appears for about a half second. I guess its the FSX logo. FSX wont start up.After that nothing happens. I have already installed SP2. Still does not work. Please help me. I am so desperate. I am even considering to fly to the States from Germany and to get a copy a the AVSIM Conference. Maybe I will buy a new graphic card this afternoon after work. Please help.Best regards and thanks for your kind support.Gerrit

Have you tried a CTRL-ALT-DEL and checked the task manager to see if fsx.exe is running? I'm curious as to whether the program is crashing out, or just hanging.-What are the rest of your specs (CPU, RAM, etc)Hope you get it working.
August 28, 200619 yr Hello Senator.I will try to reinstall the demo.I am running the game at 1280x1024 at 32 bit. After the short flicker I have tried ctrl-alt-del and in the task manager I have no fsx application running. I guess it is just crashing out.I have the 3.6ghz P4 with 2GB RAM, with ASUS Motherboard and intel chipset. X800XT Graphic card.I appreciate for your kind support
August 28, 200619 yr What kind of monitor are you using? It kind of sounds to me as if this might be some sort of refresh rate problem involving an LCD monitor.System Specs:Intel P4 3.4C(C = Northwood Core) on Asus P4C800-E Deluxe(Intel 875P + ICH5R Chipset), Zalman 7000a-Cu HS/Fan, Enermax RG651P-VE 550W PSU, 2 GB Mushkin eXtreme Performance(2-2-2) Dual Channel PC3200 RAM, Samsung 214T MultiSync 21" Digital LCD Monitor, Sapphire Radeon X800 XT PE Videocard with Catalyst v6.8 Driver, DirectX 9.0c, Creative Audigy2 Platinum Soundcard with OpenAL Beta Driver v2.08.0002, Western Digital 250 GB w/8 MB Cache 7200 RPM Parallel ATA HDD, WinXP Pro SP2, Nortons Anti-virus and Personal Firewall 2006
August 28, 200619 yr I am using a 19 inch Sony SDM-M19. The reaction time of the LCD should be around 12MS I guess.
August 28, 200619 yr Also, I know ASUS has some good motherboard utilities, you might want to make sure you have the latest motherboard drivers as well.It sounds odd, but I couldn't get my MSI nForce2 to play Half-Life 2 for more than five minutes without hardlocking my system until I updated the mobo drivers. Not the bios, mind you, no flashing involved, but the drivers. Then I was golden.
August 28, 200619 yr If you are running multi-monitor, try turning off your secondary display(s). This allowed FSX to work on two multi-monitor computers I have that were otherwise freezing at the splash screen. August 29, 200619 yr Yep, that's an LCD monitor. I believe 12MS is how quickly the monitor is capable of updating a pixel on the screen. Refresh rate should be 60 Hz(how quickly the backlight cycles).I don't know how to solve your problem, although I still have my suspicions that it might be an issue with FSX thinking your monitor is capable of more than a 60 Hz refresh rate, for whatever reason. I could very well be wrong with my guess of course. Anyway...If you pull up your ATI Catalyst Control Center and go to --> 'Display Options'...what do you have selected in there for '3D Refresh Rate Override'?and then go to --> 'Displays Manager'...what does it show as your refresh rate on there?
August 29, 200619 yr Reading this thread a second time, I note you only seem to have single monitor.In any case, I have first hand experience that the demo does work on an X800 video card, so don't be buying a replacement card just yet.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
August 29, 200619 yr Thanks for all your kind answers.Luckily I have not bought a new video card. I came back from work and immediately first cleaned up my desktop. Deinstalled many other gamnes like sims2, Civcity, Need for Speed Most Wanted etc..After that I deintalled the FSX. I used Norten Systemworks for 2 times to scan my computer.. many errors found, fixed all problems which the software found. Installed FSX again. It's working.Amazing game. vehicles on the ground a bit to fast. Many bugs I do not want to list.Oh yes I installed prior new drivers for my X800XT graphic card. No update on bios. Installed all new patches for WinXP which was show on the icon. Best regards from Germany,MilesSky
