Exporting FS9 textures into FSX...

Featured Replies

Hey, guys:I tried tossing in some FS9 stuff, just to see how FS9 liveries would look with the new shading and such... But it's coming out transparent. I am guessing the texture format changed and the way it's formatted now leaves alpha for transparency. Any clue as to how we could "port" textures over to take advantage of the FSX goodies?EDIT: From what I'm seeing by examining default textures, the format is now .dds, and that's the format that displays transparencies. Now, if this is right, then I am assuming that no FS9 model can possibly take advantage of the new reflective functionality (in other words, to get it to display you have to remove the alpha channel), because it's not made to read .dds textures... Am I in the ballpark?Daniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMember of SJU Photography. I sort of remember when I first started painting aircraft in FS9, and I seemed to be doing the alpha channels backwards. maybe they changed the way alpha channels are done back to how they were in FS2002 (which I actually liked better). The first thing I noticed in the FSX Demo was the reflections on the aircraft glass, which FS9 seemed to be devoid of with regards to the default aircraft. Not sure if it'll work, but try doing the alpha channels the opposite of how you do them in FS9 (color wise) and see what happens. It's worth a shot I suppose.

More like a GMAX issue ;-) or the env bump map no alpha issue I guess....To change the texture format is easy just make it DXT5 and compress to DDS....Andr

Sweet... Well, I'm having a blast with the Ultralight, about to shoot from Saba to Statius. I love this region they chose, it's close to home, and I control it on VATSIM. :-lolDaniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMember of SJU Photography.
