Demo and add-ons?

Featured Replies

I'm sure we've all seen a lot of FSX interviews where the Microsoft reps have talked about how important backwards compatibility is.So, those who are in the know (and because we're all anxious and can't POSSIBLY wait 9 more hours to try this ourselves) - will we be able to install third party airplanes into the demo? Or is FSX not quite that backwards compatible at this point of development?

I reckon they disabled that.

>I reckon they disabled that.I just assumed that they would not have included the proper files for the other planes.I'm sure there will be some experimentation with the demo to get other planes in. Just not sure if it will work, since we don't directly know how the file structure works yet.

Well, sorry to disappoint you but haven't disabled anything. That said, we're still working on backward compatibility issues some some things may not work. (And of course any add-on that uses FSUIPC will be a no-go since that's completely impatible with FSX.)It will interesting to hear about what you find.

Might have to watch that again. Thanks

I figured things were still being worked on but I'm glad to hear it's theoretically possible to get (some) FS9 planes to work (more or less) in the demo. You (or someone else?) hinted at something having been done about VC lighting (possibly to fix the daylight issue?), I'm curious to see if those changes will affect FS9 planes ... :)

Hi,I don't know about ALL the offsets, but it was mentioned in the video from Spain that there will be a new programming API available. However, I assume it won't work *exactly* the same as FSUIPC, and that any addons using FSUIPC will need to be updated to work with the new API.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Wow. You guys are REALLY going for the win this time. Everything from participating in the forums, to releasing the demo, to helping out the community for add-ons as much as possible... You guys are really going the extra mile. I know all of us (even some of the pessimists!) are all very thankful.I'm sure there will be a lot of posts like "It's not working : LIARS!" and such... But, like you said, you are still working on it. And I'm not expecting 100% full backwards compatibility, that'd be foolish. If it happens, GREAT!... If not, oh well. Awesome work! Thanks! >Well, sorry to disappoint you but haven't disabled anything.>That said, we're still working on backward compatibility>issues some some things may not work. Correct.

I realise FSX is backwards compatible but do you mean the DEMO allows us to install add-ons? Thats great! Thanks. :-beerchug Anyway guess I know shortly... only 15mins before its available on Gamespot!

>Correct.YAY YAY YAY!!! DON'T have to worry about a single addon by 1 person anymore for future stuff!! GREAT NEWS!Carmine http://forums.avsim.net/images/wave.gif
