Ortho and Airport Geo-referencing

Featured Replies

Hi XP Folks,

Have finally managed to get Ortho4xp to work (I think). Built an area around KSAT (+29-099) using GO2 images. Looks great except that a couple of the default airports don't fit the ortho image. KSAT is shifted a little and looks a bit odd around taxiways, etc. But when I flew to KBAZ (New Braunfels) the ortho and airport scenery are offset by maybe a couple thousand feet. It's very disconcerting on approach to see two airports.

Is this typical? Did I do something wrong? Should I just select a different ortho? Just not sure how to proceed from here.

I will continue to test and try different combinations but would certainly appreciate any advice anyone might have.

Thanks.

Jesse

Hi Jesse,

sometimes airports are misplaced (especially smaller ones) - but more often it is the orthoimagery that is "off" by a few meters.

If an airport is truly misplaced (you need to verify that by checking the runway end coordinates in WED against official aviation authority data), you can improve that airport in WED and then either just use the improved airport yourself or even submit it to the Scenery Gateway so everyone benefits.

If it is the satelitte image that is "just a bit off", there is really nothing you can do about it. You *could* move all conflicting airports in WED for yourself, just need to decide if it is worth the effort (and inaccuracy) to you. I.e. all ILS won´t line up anymore, either.

Cheers, Jan

Thanks Jan. That's pretty much what I was thinking. I may try a different image source but will definitely look at the airport location and take a shot with WED if that seems appropriate.

Again thanks for the input.
