Still don't understand the portals

I watched the video but I just can't make it work. In the video when you created first door and then went through it you ended up in the Outside camera view. When I do the same nothing happens and the camera stays in the On-Board view. If I move a bit back then the camera switches to Static view. Making two portals only complicates things even further. Then the camera starts switching like crazy when going through "portals". I'm messing with it for almost an hour now trying to make a simple two portals entrance/exit.. I think I tried every combination, I just don't get it.
