Not another FS10 thread... well, kinda.

Featured Replies

Hi,as everyone will know, there has of recent and not so recent been a plethora of threads on features people would like to see in FS10.However, those threads always seem to be about graphics, ATC, or adding ramp agents etc. While those are all valid points, I would like to hear people's opinions on how the technical side (such as menu navigation etc.) should be changed.I have no idea if it's too late for these ideas to be incorporated if Microsoft happens to look at this post, but here are mine:1. Saveable key assignment profiles:I often have to recalibrate my joystick (USB Saitek Cyborg Evo), and then all my key assignments are lost, which means I have to go through the same motions again and again with the twelve buttons. It would be really cool if I could just reload a key assignment profile.2. Exclusion of certain views:On my 1.6 GHz computer, some views take a long time to load at complex airports etc. I never use tower view, but whenever I want to switch from VC view (which I use most of the time) to spot view (and I do that often), I have to wait for ages for all the textures to load in tower view, and then I usually have to press the "Change view" button again even though I pressed it twice in the first place. So I would like to see an option where I could switch directly from VC to spot by "unticking" the tower view.I know of course that I could go directly to spot in the view options menu, but that would defeat the point. I want to do it all with one or two click of a button. Also, all those VC haters could "untick" the VC.3. Confirm button for "reset flight":Of course this is entirely my fault, but I bet I'm not the only one it's happened to: sometimes, when I want to click "Save flight", I accidentally click "Reset flight", as they're directly above each other. So generally, I think any option that cancels the current flight in any way should should ask me if I really want to do it.4. Re-plan IFR at airports:Again, my fault, but again many have probably dunnit before:Sometimes I accidentally cancel IFR while taxiing because suddenly "Cancel IFR" is number 2 in the ATC menu instead of its normal 4 (or whatever it normally is). Then, I can't re-plan the flight, but have to ask for VFR takeoff clearance, which is a real bugger if the airport is IFR. Instead, I have to end the flight and create a new one. So why can't I just open the flight planner, redo the plan and have it cleared?5. Flight Planner map:When I'm not sure about which airport is the main airport in a city, i.e. whether the airport I chose in the flight planner can take a heavy, I want to be able to click it in the "Find route" window and check out the runway lengths. But no: I can click any other airport in the world but not the one I routed my flight into. Unfortunately, my knowledge of South American and African airports is limited, so once I flew into... I think it was Caracas or something like that, in any case the names of the airports in that city didn't show me which was the one I should fly my 747 into (didn't have "Intl." in its name), so I ended up doing a night landing on a GA runway... worked though! :-) But it kinda put a damper on the realism...6. No "Report them in sight"...Or at least, fewer of those. When I fly complex add-on planes out of a big airport I have to do lots of things to establish climb etc. (my most complex add-on being the fantastic Ready For Pushback 747-200) and my computer has a tough time keeping up with the scenery already. But tower or departure insists on asking me to report some Cessna in sight that's just taking off. Sometimes, I have to report it four times: at six o'clock... at four o' clock... blabla...I presume Microsoft was just trying to make ATC more realistic, but... well, we know how "realistic" it is. If I'm at FL350 and in danger of colliding with a jet, fine. But if I'm in a 747 thundering through 700 feet on my way to JFK doing three things at once, I'm not terribly interested in some Cessna that'll be out of range in 20 seconds. So maybe they could put a bit more AI into that...7. Speaking of AI:I know, I wanted to keep this focussed in menus and the like, but I just wanted to add my voice to the big, big chorus: make AI traffic planes get their arses off the runways, and separate them from me on approach! (And yeah, I have AI Separator, and it does the job, but I don't want to have to switch programs and automatically pause FS every time I fly into a big airport.)I'm sure I forgot to list some of my other pet flightsim peeves... add yours! I hope people are interested.Cheers,Ralf from Munich

Why wasn't this posted in the FSX Forum?

Ya know, the FS team put together a survey some time ago for everyone to partake in, and many, including myself, got chosen to be a part of much more than just a simple survey. Many said it was an elaborate hoax, that it was laoding spyware on your computer, etc etc. Now that FSX has been announced, everyone is coming out of the wood work to talk about features they want implemented. The chance was there, and many denied it.Scott

I'm sure that many who did participate in the survey(myself included) either didn't get a chance to join in the extra part or had a situation that prevented it(lost hi-speed access myself).
