January 5, 200620 yr http://flightsimplaza.com/fsblog/?p=28Well said, personally I'm really looking forward to FSX and what it may offer.
January 5, 200620 yr Indeed, and one some people should think about.I can indeed hear them all crying "it's just eye-candy" again.Might as well go back to white lines on black background then, huh?Graphics are just as important for immersion and suspension of disbelief as (simulated) flight performance is.And it indeed seems that FS X is on a good way in that regard (with quite some time to go to Gold status, one may add)Regards,Robert
January 5, 200620 yr Moderator Perhaps we should just "repost" some of the same, tired, inane, and whining comments from a few years ago. It would save a LOT of time 'cause folks wouldn't actually have to think before setting fingers to keyboard... ;) Fr. January 5, 200620 yr It's to be expected that there will be substantial upgrades to the engine grpahically, as this is really what sells games :) Gameplay is important, but eye candy gets the first look and can be tweaked for perfomrance. What these shots show me is that the fundamental limitaions on the number of autogen objects has been revised upwards- probably in a dramatic way. Those shots of Seattle look really good. The scale of the objects is probably off, but from altitude of any kind, wh oreally cares. Give me the impression with the fewest polys possible and I'll be happy. That being said, of course they're going to show us relatively little on the initial announcement. I expect this to be an incrmental upgrade, building on the best of the past. I've been doing the FS surveys for months puttin gmy 2 cents in - Night ground textures, and AI ATC are 2 of my biggest, since I fly PIC and PMDG exclusively these days.Look at the shots closely- reflections, not just texture hacks- (landing lights on aircraft and the ground) Wet surfaces. better default Landclass and much denser autogen. Better roads. a DVD (or more) to hold all of the scenery data. Hopefully the Scenery DB will be along the lines of a really high res landclass DB as available to MS for reasonable cost, a detailed road DB as avaialable at reasonable cost as well. Hopefully all of this will have global coverage, but it won't be. The US seems to have the most friendly policies concerning LULC and other mapping data- Look at what we could do with TerraScene for the Fly! series.I think that MS should hire Vauchez and George Grimshaw to do as may airports as they can- even if it's 10 airports globally. Heck even release them as part of updates :) I beleive that the FS app is like a programming language- a framework to do what the imagianation holds.I expect this to be a real upgrade, and yes, I'll be there on release day to pick it up. I don;t consider myself to be a fanboi (too old for that now) but the FS family is a pretty good app considernig all of the mods that I've made. MS would barely recognize their creation on my PC, to the point where my install is the result of hundreds of authors that are not on the MS payroll.
