FFS Extra 300L problem

Featured Replies

Flight factory Simulations has a very nice freeware Extra 300L aerobatics a/c available at it's website - it is far superior to the default Extra. However , I have a strange problem with it that I don't have with any other a/c . When you move the aileron controls to bank (say) left, for a very brief moment , the a/c starts to bank right and then it goes left. It is most disconcerting - especially when trying to perform aerobatic manouvres. I have also seen this type of behaviour with a few a/c autopilots - where, when the a/p is switched on to HDG, the a/c will briefly bank the opposite way to the way it should go.Does anybody have any kind of explanation for this? I can't believe that it is my joystick as it is the only a/c that does this. Thanks for any help Barry

Probably this Extra 300 uses the flight dynamics of the default Extra which comes with FS for quite some time now. And until FS2002 that roll behaviour was present in the default Extra. There are some tables in the .AIR file which designate nonlinearity for control commands, multiplying the amount of input for a specified factor for a given deflection angle. For small deflections of aileron this factor is negative in those AIR files, effectively reversing the response from control input. I don't know what aspect of this plane's flight characteristics was tried to be modelled with this things, but the result is really bizarre.Try copying your default FS2004 Extra air file over this one - if they didn't change much the cfg file it might work.

Hmm - I don't think so because the Default FS2004 Extra 300S does not exhibit this and, apart from this bizarre characteristic, the Extra 300L feels better than the default Extra 300SBarry
