FSEarth? Anyone tried it?

Featured Replies

Hello fellow simmers. I was just curious as the topic of the post states if anyone has tried FSEarth? Does it have any impact on performance? I would ideally run it on a backup system, not the same box as FS but was just curious if anyone had played with it and what there opinions were. Thanks in advance,-paulPrimary RigLiquid CooledAMD FX-57 @ 3 gigsAsus A8NSLI-Premium2 gigs Corsair XMS PC3500LL 2 3 2 6 1TXFX 7900 GTX 690/1750XFX 7800 GTX 515/135024 inch Widescreen LCDDual 19 inch LCD'sRaid-0+1PCPower and Cooling 1khttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7800 GTX 515/1350 Raid-0psolk.jpg

Hi Paul,It would run well on your box. It is cool with all the tags turned on to see the names of things you are flying over.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

I'm a fan of this program. It has a lot more flexibility than the freeware alternative and lots of other options as well. Moreover, the upgrade released today adds even more features. As far as performance is concerned, I run the map on a second machine just as you propose to do. At first I encountered a terrible stuttering in FS9, but a quick trip to the FS Earth forum fixed the problem. Now FS9 runs as smoothly as it did before use of FS Earth. The fix, as explained by Luciano on his forum, is to place the FS Earth folder that Google Earth accesses on the FS9 machine instead of the Google Earth machine. This fix may only be needed by those with a slow network connection. My Google Earth machine had an old network card that wasn't anywhere near as fast as the network card on my FS9 machine. Although I'm not sure about this, I would suspect that if you have high speed network cards on both your machines, you may not even encounter this problem at all and can follow the default installation instructions and ignore this fix.Robert
