When I climb over a woody slope in the mountains or fly over a ridge, at about 2/3k feet above the ground I see the trees. If you look at one of my P3D video (Bush flying in PNG - not a shameless plug, just an example) from the 1:09 mark, you'll see the trees not a blob of mashed green.
