How I came up with this water for FS9 I don't know

Featured Replies

This is what can happen when you mix all the great addons from here.:) I love it From up high it mimics FSX some.

What add ons would those be and what is your formula?Regards, Carlos

It looks much too unreal IMO. Its too reflective and I don't like the white stripes. But important thing is that you like it :)

The great majority of screenies of FSx that I see show the water - personally, I think it looks absolutely not real. Almost a comic book colouring.Barry

Well then, I seem to be the odd one out among the commentatorial contributions, but I actually LIKE the water. About the alleged comic book colouring: ain't life a comic book after all (grin)?!Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

Just for the record I think FSX water looks great, though I do see ways of improving it.Jaap, no disrespect here intended but the screen shot you show is nothing like FSX water. If you think the water you show compares to FSX then as a developer it makes me think I can get away with doing just about anything and fooling the customers it's brilliant!Fortunately, I don't think like that and instead I go with what I think looks right and work hard to try and reproduce how light and colours look in the real world, best I can within the limitations of what the game can do.FS9 has limitations but FSX is in a totally different league. It does eveything FS9 does but it's got much more varitaions including brown water, green water, black water for inland. More specific water for tropical regions and other world regions. The reflection maps are the same as FS9 at one level but at higher settings it's totally different and improved.FSX water is the best I've seen so far and nothing I can do to FS9 can get near to how FSX looks. It amazes me that users will take a bit of this and a bit of that, form 3rd parth FS9 products, and mix it up, when it's not even their own work, and claim it's almost as good as FSX. If I had done FSX water and somebody showed the shots you show there I would feel very upset and I'm sure the MSFSX team are privately thinking this reading your comments right now.FSX is an amazing piece of kit and though there are a few issues they are still working on to improve memory leaks for example it's something very special even as it is right now.The water is one of the most amazing breakthroughs in the game and the last thing FSX team needs right now is for users to show that kind of hybrid of fS9 work and say "as good or nearly as good" as fSX.It's really important that we users can appriciate how good fSX work is and pat them on the back when deserved.I've read a few people here say, "nah, FSX water is like a comic book" but it's not anything like a comic book. It's brilliant. Now I do appricaite a lot of freeware developers have made effort to change how fS9 water looks but in just about every case I've seen, including my own work, there are things that don't look right at certain conditions and altitudes.I say to MS FSX team that I would have been very proud to have developed that water you guys did for FSX. It's brilliant and don't let other guys tell you otherwise. For the record.... I've developed 2 add on's for FS9 that both do water. As far as I'm aweare I'm the only 3rd party payware developer of water. So let's get behind MS FSX team guys and tell them their water is briliant. It surely is brillaint. IMHO
