So this gives me hope that we should have good scenery in most places! I think you are right they are using multiple sources, but I'm not aware this extends to satalite imagery. Don't these all come from bing maps / 3d cities? Take the example above, it's quite obviously the same aerial image but with different atmospherics in the sim and AI autogen and procedural tech to enhance the look. The bing maps rendering is pretty basic, I would wager the source material looks a lot better than it appears in bing maps so I wouldn't trust that as a reference colour accurate copy of the original image.
