October 8, 200619 yr FSX, at medium-high settings, performs very well for me on Window Vista (RC2) no less. At these settings FSX is locked at 20 FPS and stays there 90% of the time even when flying in an urban city such as KATL. Some have speculated that Windows Vista will degrade gaming performance but Vista (RC2) with default video drivers performs as well or better than my recently installed XP OS with only FSX and FS9 on it. At medium settings FSX looks much better than FS9 maxed out (default install) but I must admit I
October 8, 200619 yr Did you happen to run under RC1?I have not upgraded to RC2 yet because I am not sure I like the notice about *maybe* not being able to upgrade to the final Vista (instead requiring a full reinstall).
October 8, 200619 yr Now, add a few Fly Tampa airports, Ultimate Traffic and set it to 60% and also add an airliner with FMC and what not. Mind you..these are are premium vendors who are very efficient with their code.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 8, 200619 yr I tested the Demo in both RC1 and RC2. No performance loss in Vista compared to XP. I used the included ATI drivers, not the RC1's ATI offers. I have a "feeling" that it might even be a bit smoother in Vista...Steve
October 8, 200619 yr I only ran the FSX BETA under RC1 so I don't want to make any comparisons there. As for Vista, I upgraded from RC1 to RC2 and does seem a little faster to me then RC1. RC2 has not been as fully tested as RC1 and it is on seperate code branch from RTM. That's why they are not guaranteeing an upgrade path to RTM. I took the gamble that RC2 is better since we are close to RTM and I have pretty standard components/software in my box. As far as upgrading to RTM when its released I'd recommend, and will certainly do myself, a clean install of Vista not an upgrade. I am very happy with Vista RC2 and as of now it is my primary OS.-Thad
