security in Windows

Featured Replies

I'm having some security in Windows 10 problems. I have added a Samsung SSD and installed P3D onto there (as E drive), however I get very few options in the right-click area that I do on the bootable C-Drive.

I'm having a lot of trouble installing add-on software, and I think it is a security problem, which is a shame security is not an issue for me, so I want to open the E drive up .

The error can be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/4P18jzkHDsYfroAK7

It seriously seems to stop me from installing quite a bit of stuff.

Going by the message it sounds like P3D is installed into the "Program Files" directory of C:\ drive (or some other "system managed" location).

Assuming a separate drive, E:\ drive should be formated with NTFS and have the following security permissions at the root level.

  • Authenticated Users - Modify
  • SYSTEM - Full Control
  • Administrators - Full Control
  • Users - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read

And when P3D is then installed into E:\ drive there should be no issue with installing updates/apps etc.

Mine is H:\ drive where I have the following folders.

  • Global_Addons
  • Addons_P3D
  • Lockheed Martin

Each have subfolders with P3D itself in the following path.

H:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\

I tend to keep everything Flight Sim related out of the Program Files location and on H:\ Drive, makes it easier manage and backup/restore is simplified for which I use a script to collect all the other locations together to backup on a single drive.

Also thinking about the use of symbolick links to keep all the P3D operations folders in the one location, job for more time though.

Cheers
