October 9, 200619 yr OK, just for kicks I dropped Chris Arringtons AIRPORT ENVIRONMENT UPGRADE 7 into FSX. Main reason is I simply like them. Well, even though many of the texture files are larger than the stock FSX files, my frame rates went up? Strange, but I'll take it.
October 10, 200619 yr Hmmm that IS weird, what do those hangars look like now? The ones with the peaked roofs, not the older models but the newer ones. Also you might have some wierd issues at some of the terminals. How about a screenie?Hornit
October 10, 200619 yr What many people don't realise is that the airport, ground, glass textures in FSX are different than what you get in FS9.One of the differences is bump mapping. This consumes GPU resources. Another is reflection mapping on the glass, which also has an impact. Thirdly there's light bloom, but only has an effect when light bloom is turned on.So the third party airport may be a lot more detailed, but also appears a little flatter due to the lack of bump mapping and reflection mapping.James
October 10, 200619 yr Hey Hornit,I've only flown into about 4-5 airports so far but they look good so far. I'm sure you'r right on your comments James. Right now I'm just "playing" with different things. Some have seemed to help. Some really screw things up. But, I follow one absolute rule. I back up the fresh installation so I can always "put it back";-)So far, using several of the tweaks posted and some different AI etc., I'm averaging about 17-19 FPS on the ground at KATL with 45% AI (both), Normal autogen, no bloom or shadows, and all other sliders to the right of center, water on 1 high (I absolutely DON'T like the look of the water on the 2X settings). In the air I'm staying at my max FR (19) at all times with all weather onditions. So far I'm happy.
