GNS 530 will not Auto Slew HSI in published Hold

Hey RXP,

I purchased the software for the GNS530 over a year ago and it has been excellent.  Just recently however I have noticed an issue with the 530 sending information to an HSI.

The problem exists when flying the published hold from a missed approach.  When arriving at the holding fix the first time, the 530 DTK sequences to the proper course but the HSI does not follow suit with automatic slewing.  In any other circumstance, and to my recollection in every circumstance over the last year, the 530 sequences and the HSI auto-slews the course.  Now however, when I fly to the holding fix, the HSI course pointer just maintains the present course.

Strangely, if there is another waypoint in the flight plan beyond the holding waypoint, you can unsuspend using the OBS key and then suddenly the course pointer on the HSI will suddenly snap to the holding course.  It's almost as if the 530 is not correctly interpreting the holding course as different from a suspended OBS course.

This seems to be a recent issue since I just did an update, actually I have been behind by about 3 updates and just did them all at once, so I'm not sure if it was one of the updates or something else is happening that I can't figure out.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I have explored all settings and options, and really haven't changed anything outside of recent updates.

Thanks for your help.

Dave

Hi,

Nothing has changed with the "Auto Slew" setting implementation for ages.

Basically with CDI mode set to GPS (and not in OBS mode nor SUSP), the GPS will command a change to the HSI when the DTK changes.

It is possible this is also dependant on the DB and you might want to try out with a different MAPH preferably in a different country.

Ok, thanks for letting me know there have been no changes...perhaps the updates I did have reset some setting in the configuration window, I will have to look more closely at my settings, there's 2 or 3 that seem to refer to how this is controlled.  I should have kept a record of how everything was configured.

Right now I have

Connect GPS to HSI: Enabled
Connect HSI/CRS (auto-slew): Enabled
Connect HSI/OBS (input): Enabled
Use Simulator GPS Commands: Enabled

Does this sound correct, and should I also have enabled in the AFMS system:

Selected Course for GPS?

and/or

Selected Course for VLOC?

I will also try in another approach in the U.S. and see if that works any better.

Really appreciate your insight, thank you.

Dave

All the settings are documented in the RXP GNS User's manual and this should clarify what they are used for.

The first 2 are the only ones related to the auto-slew feature.
