October 13, 200619 yr I've read a lot posts by disappointed people leading up to today's release (here in the Benelux). I was really looking forward to FSX in the beginning, but after all the crap, I was only mildly enthusiastic. After having installed it and played with it for an hour, I'm not really disappointed, but I'm not really happy either. I'm sort of in a "meh" state. Is it good? Meh. Is it bad? Meh.It starts with the UI, it's slow. It didn't get any better after that. Just checking out some airports and aircraft with default settings made me realize there's no way in #### that I'm gonna be able to use add-ons, let alone 100% AI traffic like in FS9. I will say though, the smoothness at lower framerates is better than in FS9, so that's something, I guess. And frankly the look and feel of the sim is somehow different. Not improvement different, not more realistic different, meh different. The first couple of minutes I cursed at the thing, felt like uninstalling it straightaway, but as I said, now I'm indifferent. It's very clear that I'm gonna be using FS9 with all my beloved add-ons for quite a while. I'm not gonna give up on FSX though, I'm gonna tweak and maybe everything will suddenly work like a charm.*Sigh*I need to be left alone for while now. LOL! :D Mike...
October 13, 200619 yr Hoi Mike,Could you check something for me?Can you fly out of Rotterdam (EHRD) towards the maas. Do you get an extra island between Noordereiland and the Erasmusbridge when you have a mesh resolution of 67?If you fly west along the river do you see bridges at the Maastunnel and Benelux tunnel?Maybe somethings screwed up during the tweaking on my machine but I swear i see bridges instead of tunnels and with different mesh resolution settings I can get islands at various locations in the Maas.
October 13, 200619 yr Author I was born in Rotterdam. ;-)The extra island is there, very interesting, some more downstream. Maastunnel has become Maasbrug. And the Beneluxtunnel appears to be a bridge as well. LOL! Be sure to check out the Maasvlakte, container terminal there, a nice touch. The Kuip is looking okay too.I must say, it's growing on me, turning off autogen gives a performance boost, but I'd rather have a couple of trees and buildings here and there. Looking at the task manager, FSX is consuming 800 MB of memory and more... And the overall hard disk activity is very high. Mike...
