See picture.>>- What is it for?>- When to use it?>Default it is ON.>>The FSX Learning Center doesn't tell me anything about it.>The Inertial Separator is simply an intake bypass that allows rain, ice, gravel, water, etc. to bypass the engine inlet and get ejected out the side of the cowl. It works by using the inertia of the object that you don't want going into the engine. The Caravan intake takes the incoming air and changes its direction 90 degrees from the line of flight to get into the engine inlet. The Inertial Separator takes advantage of this 90 degree turn. In normal operation(Inertial Separator Off) all of the air from the intake is routed into the engine through that 90 degree turn. With the Inertial Separator ON, there is an opening in the back of the inlet where the 90 degree turn is. This opens to let contaminants flow straight through the inlet and out the side of the cowl.See this picture: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1122136/M/The Inertial Separator outlet is the opening on the L/H side of the cowl ahead of the pilots door.As to when you use it:*Gravel runways or water on runway.*Rain*Snow*Floatplane takoff and landing.*In cloudetc.Cheers,JohnBoeing 727/737 & Lockheed C-130/L-100 Mechanichttp://www.sstsim.com/images/team/JR.jpgwww.SSTSIM.com
October 16, 200619 yr Thanks John, your explanation is very informative for me! Always learning something new, even in flight simulator.Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
