October 17, 200619 yr Hi all, allthough I don't have FSX yet (will get a copy tomorrow, I hope), I'm wondering how it will run once top-addons like PMDGs, LDS, etc will be adapted. I read people are getting now - with a lot of tweaking - FPS around 20, or so. I guess with PMDGs, sophisticated airport-addons like Fly Tampa, Aerosoft, etc. they will drop down to ... ??? ... who knows, but from what I read now: unflyable.Any comments?GreetsParkhardt
October 17, 200619 yr No way, no how add-ons will run on this sim for a while without killing the fps any more than they already are. At least a year would be my guess. There is simply no room to maneuver in loss of fps for now. Maybe vista/dx10 will change that with its cpu usability enhancements, etc, but for now under dx9 forget about it. I purchased eaglesoft's liberty xlr2 last week and that thing ate up 10fps from my fs9 framerate. Results like that in fsx would simply not be possible. At this point i dont even see how a terrain enhancement could work unless it had ZERO overhead. I think/hope we will see some patches soon for this baby.
October 17, 200619 yr Author obviously thats something that cant be answered in a truly accurate way until we see what the devs come up with after they release their patches/installers, however, unless theres something very different this time around one would tend to think that its going to be the same outcome as its always been in the past...meaning payware addon planes have never given an increase in fps, and in most cases have given a decrease over the default planes. If that holds then what you say will be true for the majority of users...unflyable, unless we turn down settings even more and never fly in busy city areas. Unless we come upon a major tweak that hasnt been found yet (which is always a possibility) devs re going to have to take it easy on polygons and also either dumb down or find a more effecient way for coding gauges (and i doubt thats possible right now).We already have several tweaks for relieving gpu memory usage and processing a bit. While using the tweaks did help you eventually get to the point where you realize that turning down even MORE graphics options stops helping and its at this point that theres only 1 thing left that would help to up the performance and thats cpu cycle tweaks...because any further graphics tweaks on my machine are simply wasted because its the cpu thats being bottle necked right now and theres nothing at all i can do to tweak that other than turning off ALL forms of traffic (which i have already done).I think that unless the devs can see a way to implement gauges in a way thats more effecient than the stock gauges, we are destined to see alot of poor performing fsx addon planes in the near future :-(The older your cpu/mobo combo is the more likely you will be seeking out a better relationship with the freeware side of the market. Personally as far as payware i think my best bet, until i see and build a machine with much higher clock cycles, will be the less intensive cockpits of some GA style planes from the likes of Carenado and RealAir.Dave Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons
