October 17, 200619 yr fantastic! the icing is so real... to make it even more spooky, it happened almost exactly where my first real-life experience of icing took place--crossing the mighty st. lawrence east of quebec one fair december dayi was a bit sharper then; in the sim it almost killed me :-)suddenly i realized i had been pulling back more and more for a while, getting close to the nasty end of the envelope... it crept on me like the real thing too often does! when i realized what was going on, i dove for the deck, opened up and regained lift within minutes. amazing!now the sp is injected, but perhaps aircraft developers could have a closer look at the carburetor temperature and carburetor heat variables in the sdk before releasing fsx updates for some older crates. this one user would surely appreciate the extra effort :-)wow, just think about it, the engine suddenly running rough in the sim! woooo-hooooo :-)
October 17, 200619 yr I have not found icing yet but it's good to know it is in there.I was flying from St. John's Newfoundland down to Halifax yesterday using real weather. It was cold (40 degF at Halifax) but not too many clouds except while I was enroute (and above them), so probably not ideal icing conditions.I'm sure I will encounter it soon though if I do enough flying.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
October 17, 200619 yr It got me on one of the missions in FSX when I flew into clouds. I could just prevent stalling. Was not prepared for such a cold surprice! Never happened in FS2004.Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
October 17, 200619 yr I did not have the time to look for visual icing on the wings. Just lost lots of power and had to switch carb heat on.Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
October 17, 200619 yr No visual icing yet but i heard someone or some company is making a visual addon that will also make it visual. I did that mission to and also had the icing problem, it's definatly cool that it's in there and makes it even more real.
October 17, 200619 yr no i dont have a link yet, but i will look for it and if i encounter one or if i find out more info will post it. Im very much interested in it to.
October 17, 200619 yr there is an ice texture in the texture folder--anyone seen frozen lakes yet? :-)
October 17, 200619 yr Hmmm... I am very interested to see how this turn's out. I am gonna sit it out on this one... That is what I have been waiting for. And weather harsh enough that if you do fly a C-172 through a cumulo-nimbus that is towering up to FL500. I think It is gonna be alot bumpier than usual and who know's may get certified for aerobatics by time it's said and done if you don't become a lawn dart. Most important thing about flying is avoiding very serious weather conditions. But I will leave that stuff up to ActiveSky which I hope they can at least work with FSX and it's coding better to implement a step up in the realism of the simming department. Happy Landings, Josh
