Was FS9 patched?? FSX is going to be...

Featured Replies

Since I wasn't around for FS9 at all I was just curious if FS9 was patched like FSX is going to be. Seems to me like FSX Vista/DX10 patch is either being forgotten about or ignored due to the fact that people don't want to put up the money to upgrade their hardware/software.Was FS9 released just before a new operating system was about to be released and had to be patched to play on it and it's new built from the ground up DX software?? I highly doubt that. I think people have to be a little more patient. I know it's very hard and I am not one of those patient people that's why I am in here every day looking to do anything I can to play this game right or go to FS9 and play that right.

Other than news about Longhorn (Vista) delays, no, there was no Windows OS that was released just after FS9. MS did, however, release a patch for FS9. available on Aces' website. Look here: http://www.microsoft.com/GAMES/flightsimulator/downloads.aspI bought FSX yesterday at Circuit City (Deluxe on sale for $48). Even though I won't be spending much time with FSX, I wanted to financially support the product. Perhaps sometime next year I will use FSX. From what I have seen so far in the product, it's gorgeous and very detailed. Currently, it runs too slow on my PC at the default settings. I can't wait until next year when I have a new PC for it!David

Unfortunatley I am also getting more impatient so I will have to try to find something to do until at least January and maybe longer.

Do you seriously want to finacially support Microsoft,...and.....for something you probably wont use now?You have to be kidding !!!!Do you really think that Microsoft need finacial support? I don

Generally speaking, most versions of MS Flight Sim in recent years have been patched not too long after their initial release. Most patches are official and generally address performance issues and the odd glitch or missing feature (for example, one FS patch in recent years added several missing bridges from a few locations) Some other patches are either speculative or semi-official, for example there were widely distributed 'no CD fixes' for a couple of FS incarnations to allow you to run it without the CD in the drive. Similarly, after 9-11, there was a patch which removed the World Trade Centre from the then current FS, which it was speculated had been used by the perpetrators of the attack, to train the suicide pilots. There was some very ill-informed tabloid critisicm levelled at FS because of this, and it was generally a sad and difficult time for many flight sim fans who understandably were mainly shocked and upset that so apparently positive and harmless a product as FS had been sullied by the misuse of it.So patches for FS are nothing if not expected for a variety of reasons, and it would be highly unlikely if FSX were not to get one in some shape or form, particularly when much more performance data is available owing to wider usage after release. Cynics might suggest that this is a cheeky public beta, but the fact is that it's difficult to create a product which you know will run okay on every half-decent PC, when the vast majority of those machines have been constructed from widely-differing components. Most serious flight simmers are well aware that flight sims use a lot of processing power and so it's very common for them to have at the very least added a component or two themselves, catering for them all would be a good trick if you could manage it, so I would say that an FSX patch is more, rather than less likely, once all the evidence is in.

There will be a patch for FSX and it is the Vista/DX10 patch. The reason for my thread is not to find out if there is a patch indeed coming for FSX. I am comparing FS9 to FSX in relation to where each is/was as far as new software (which ultimatley leads to new hardware) is concerned. FS9 was released with XP 2 years old and 3 years before Vista's released. FSX was released on XP with 3 or so months left of XP and DX10 (not just another upgrade) 3 or so months away. Bottom line is FS9 was released in the "middle" of a "generation" if you will. FSX was released at the "very end" of a "generation". I think FSX will shine on what it was planned to be released on from the beginning and that is Vista/DX10.

anybody else??
