So you are basically forced to use the GPS if you want to fly one of the aircraft equipped with the glass panel, other wise navigation is very difficult. Is it just me or is this a major oversite?

If it is, Avidyne commit the same error - only way to get DME data is via the GPS, and the only way to get that is to input it. In the UK the importer actually has to add a separate `old style` DME to make the aircraft IFR legal. One thing though, you CAN get the data from the NRST button by scrolling through to the VOR pages, providing the VOR Appears in the list. That's real time data too, so just as effective and more accurate than the radio transmission derived data from the VOR itself becasue it works just as well with NDB's and ISEC's.Hope this helps.Allcott
