To Autogen or Not To Autogen?

Featured Replies

someone help me decide, should I run autogen totally on or totally off?I'm using matt's tweaks plus 800 for trees and 3000 for buildings in that CFG entry, plus fiber frame @ .33I can't enjoy FS with low FPS/jitters but I also love to see autogen while on approach...ARGGGH I can't decide!! What to do?

I think Matt had some kind of modified default.xml available which somehow kept autogen around airports but otherwise reduced it? I can't seem to remember where I read about it (could be his blog) and to be honest, at the time I was wondering how in the world he would be able to achieve that simply by editing the default.xml file (which only lists what autogen objects are used in which part of the world), but maybe he's clever like a ... *drumroll* ... "fox" ... and has figured out a way ;)Personally I've settled to "dense" autogen and scenery density with a renamed default.xml and trees per cell setting of 3000 and buildings per cell setting of 1500. Until I'm ready to start combing through the default.xml to create a version that removes items I don't care for and keeps those I'd like to see every now and then, this works for me. I get plentiful forests when flying in the bush and my cities still manage to look like cities without completely butchering my FPS even at airports (although I'm obviously still limited to low levels of AI traffic).
