another FSX Dvd that won't install

Featured Replies

I was one of the first ones to get my FSX deluxe copy on Tuesday Morning. That Dvd wouldn't load and I kept getting error 1335 saying there was a corrupt cabinet file or problem reading the Dvd. I went back to Circuit City and exchanged it for another copy. That one keeps getting read errors, mainly within the first 3 minutes of install. Well I now figure it must be my dvd rw because it's pretty old so I go and buy a new dvd rw and put that in. Anything else reads fine but I'm still getting errors with this new FSX disk. Here it is Oct. 20 and I still haven't been able to install this thing. I'm thinking Microsoft put out a bad batch of the dvd's and my Circuit City got a bunch of them. I'm off my soapbox. Any help would be appreciated

Have you tried copying the entire contents of BOTH DVD's to the hard drive, and istall from there?Allcott

Mine didnt install first time either- was worried because disc 1 had been "floating" in the box. Just cleaned it thoroughly and worked second time.

Yes, I've been scouring the flight sim websites for any and all assistance. I've transferred all files from the DVDs to my hard drive to no avail (it still errors during install from the HD).I've super cleaned the Dvd, gotten rid of Nero, made sure I was signed on as Administrator and a few more things that I can't think of right now.My only conclusion is that there is actually something wrong with the DVD's. It doesn't appear to be widespread, judging by the sporadic instances I see on the forums, but there is definitely a bunch of DVD's with problems. Some lucky people are able to get through the problems and get FSX installed. Unfortunately I'm not one of them.

Hi,It may be the InstallShield Update Service causing the problem.Try the two files here:http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q111006Download them both.Do the uninstall and reboot.Install FSXReinstall the InstallShield Update Service and reboot. It worked for me.

Just to let you know ...I'm also having problems with my dvds : during the installation many texture files aren't installed yielding some error files in some areas ... can't just jump directly to the seattle airport for instance.I tried to repair the installation but I just can't get those missing files !I also come to think that I stumbled in a bad dvd serie. My two centslaurent

In any case the above has worked for me when I've had problems reading CAB files during installs with DVDs. It's a long shot but one never knows.
