October 27, 200619 yr The mission "Amsterdam to Heathrow" calls for a diversion to Rotterdam(ROT) and the Manual gives instructions for how to enter ROT into the GPS.After a considerable time battling to enter ROT I still can't figure out how to do it and would appreciate guidance using an explanation in different words.I'm sure it must be dead simple (when you know how) but so far I haven't been able to crack it.Cliff
October 27, 200619 yr First, open up the GPS window (I think it's SHIFT-3). Then click the "direct to" button (it looks like a "D" with an arrow), which should bring up the direct to page. Now, click on the right side of the smaller knob on the right lower corner of the GPS, and the first space of the first line should start flashing. From here, you can either enter the identifier of the airport or VOR you want to go to with the keyboard, or you can use the knobs on the GPS to do so. After putting in the identifier, hit the "enter" key on the GPS two or three times (I don't remember exactly which), and the GPS should go back to the map page, which will now have the pink line to the destination as well as the track, time, and speed displayed.
October 27, 200619 yr Biingo! Or nearly Bingo, anyway. At least I'm moving forward.I've followed your clear instructions and now am able to enter ROT without trouble. After that though I'm encountering other problems such as finding Rotterdam's Runway 24 as specified in the Mission. However it's late at night now and I want to try and solve the problems without bothering you. So, if I may,I'd like to revert tomorrow if need be.Regards,Cliff
October 27, 200619 yr Moderator >However it's late at night now and I want to try and solve the>problems without bothering you. You would want to set up the Approach Procedure for ILS Rwy24 using the GPS menu system.Hint: Take the time to actually READ the extensive manual for the G500 in the Learning Center......I guarantee it will be an eye-opener, even if not exactally a page-turner... ;) Fr. October 28, 200619 yr You can select the approach for Rotterdam by hitting the "proc" button on the GPS (after setting the GPS to go to Rotterdam). This will give you a list of the available approaches, and you just have to select the one you want with the knobs, then hit "enter", then select vectors to final or the waypoint you want to start the approach at, then activate the approach, and finally, hold the CLR button for a few seconds to get back to the map page if the GPS doesn't return there.A simpler way is to go to the map view (under "world" on the top bar), zoom in towards the Rotterdam airport, then click on the airport, and you will get a menu that will list runway lengths, ILS courses, and ILS frequencies. Then all you have to do is tune the ILS in your NAV radio, set up for the approach, and then just fly the ILS normally.
October 28, 200619 yr The GPS method is of course by far the most realistic and I like to use that one. My only problem is that I have to look up the ILS frequency manually in the GPS too, which is a pity... I'm used to the GNS430 in FS9 where the ILS freq would automatically be set in the standby NAV1: very nice. But in the FS GPS you can't see the ILS freq when you select the approach or anything. You have to manually go to the specific INFO page of the WAYPOINT page of the airfield you are going to and scroll down to see the ILS freq. Which is a pity...As far as I can tell loading and activating the approach still requires to manually set the right ILS freq otherwise the approach doesn't work well (when using the APR button on the AP, which is the way to go because most aproaches aren't GPS-approaches!)
