October 22, 200619 yr Preamble: I'm a longtime FS flyer, dating back to the old days of monochrome and currently own every version of FS ever made. With such extenive use of the product, as you can expect, I know my way around the FS world, file systems, and tweaking side of things fairly extensively... so that brings us to the following..Well, after I got and installed FSX Deluxe, I had to install my old standby I-paal cessna 206 stationair... Understandably the gauges were fubar, so i went about the task of remapping the Cessna 172 gauges into its panel, as thats what ive always used anyways. After having finished the VC setup, which I love and fly exclusively in, I got frustrated with the timezone situation the game inherantly has.. Then I aquired FSrealtime w/ FSUIPC4 and installed it.. and all #### broke loose.. The game refused to load, so I removed the fsuipc from the dll file, and successfully got it to restart, however it was immediatly apparent that something else had gone awry. The gauges in the default Cessna 172, the Beech King-air, and the Bell 206b Helo are all gone, in both VC and 2d views. This also sucked my beloved stationair into the mix from its extensive use of the 172's gauges. Gauges for everything else still appear and function, including the added in Howard 500 W/ VC. It seems as though either the gauge .dll files were corrupted somehow, or possibly un-trusted in the fsx.cfg, at least those were my first assumptions.. My first step after that realisation was to remove the bad or corrupted files, and do a repair from the FSX install program to replace them. That however failed to resolve the situation. So I un-installed FSX in its entirety, and reinstalled fresh. Again this failed to resolve the situation. My situation remains a complete mess, with more questions then answers and one huge lingering problem plaguing 3 of the defualt aircraft and my Stationair. That leaves me wondering, could this possibly be the gauge .dll files needing re-trusted in the fsx.cfg? My thinking is away from that because even with the replaced then reinstalled fsx.cfg files in stock form, the gauges fail to load. My last possible idea, and one I havent had the time to investigate yet, would be inside the XP registery. This install of windows is only 3 days old, having been forced to upgrade to XP for this new version of FS to run. So I know the registry should be easy to navigate and possibly isolate the problem, I'll soon find out upon my return home.Any ideas guys? Im lost and totally outta my place having to ask for help for the first time in ages regarding FS... ~DarksiedePS: Feel free to relocate if needed, a lag issue is interfering with my ability to post anywhere else for some reason, my apologies.
October 23, 200619 yr Prolly against the TOS, but bumping because I could really use some help, the registry proved futile, and short of a complete OS (re)wipe/installed, and a fresh FSX install, my gauges are still gone for the above listed planes, but thier glass panel variants work.. ~Darksiede
October 23, 200619 yr Moderator The very LASY RESORT for any FS problem should be reinstalling the sim, certainly not the first step...Delete your currentl fsx.cfg file FIRST and restart FSX, allowing it to rebuild the fsx.cfg file from scratch. This typically will solve 90%+ or any FS INOP issues. ;) Fr. October 24, 200619 yr Understandably so, and it wasnt my first step, it was about 50 steps into the process. Ive deleted the fsg.cfg, the dll.cfg, the camera.cfg.. and restarted between each to no success, I've ran the repair option from inside add/remove programs>>FSX to no success.. Ive spent 3 hours on to tech support with no luck.. Ive ran and re-ran through everything ive found on here with absolutely zero luck...The problem is simple: Any plane that uses .dll based gauges, has NO gauges.. any plane using the new .cab (xml style) gauges, works fine.. It probably wouldnt bother me as much, if i wasnt a GA nut, and all (most) of the GA planes use the old .dll gauges as fs2004 did...And to put it simply, its not a lack of gauge function.. its a complete lack of gauges, in the VC I have holes through the dash and can see the ground in front of/below me, in 2D cockpit, the gauges are nice black circles.. or in the radios case, a perfectly sized acre of blackness occupying the spot that had previous been a radio...Its almost as if the .dll files currupted or got un-trusted/registered.. even after a fsx.cfg delete & restart, it re-writes the fsx.cfg, replaces the trusted section with a smattering of paths and gibberish (that lovely string of info), and the gauges fail to appear.. Even with an un-install, and reinstall, they failed to re-appear..so then i un-installed, and removed all references of FSX/Flight Simulator X etc, etc, from the registry via regedit.. re-installed, and new it wouldnt work immediatly, because i didnt have to re-activate the program (like the previous time....) and sure enough, upon starting FSX, the cessna 172, B208 jetranger, King air, mooney etc, all still had gauge LOAD failure.. I'm frustrated, preterbed, and... yeh.. 82 bucks for a pair of coasters so far.. On a side note, tech support was worthless.. I'll give the guy credit, he tried, but not knowing squat about airplanes, or FSX hindered him immensely.. Explaining to him what gauges are, kind of tipped me off to the fact I was going to have a long call.. Quick list of what ive done/tried:full .cfg wipe - fsx.cfg, cameras.cfg, dll.cfg etc etcAttempted repair - From the XP control panel, add/remove progs->FSXNew video driversOld video driversResolution changes, 1024X768X32 & X16, 1280X1024X32 & X16, etc, etcuninstall-reinstalluninstall-regedit-reinstallrocket powered toasterAppreciate the attempt man, but I need more ideas, or possibilities.. or something... ~Darksiede
