The answer to FSX performance....

Featured Replies

If you want Fsx to run decently ...you need to go spend about $2200.I HAD a pentium 4 3.2 overclocked to 3.7...a 7800 gs vid card and 2 maxtor 7200 rpm sata drives in raid 0 mode. Fsx performance was dismal at best. Applied all the tweaks. Got so fed up that i told my wife that my power supply freaked and fried my mb and procesor. Went and spent $2200 on a e6700 core duo...abit AWD9d-max...2 gigs of corsair 1000mghz ddr2 ram...7950 gt 512ram...2 wd 74gig raptor 10,000rpm hd's in raid 0...and a 750 watt thermaltake modular power supply. All i can say is "SWEEEEEET". FSX runs pretty #### good.1680 x 1050 22" wide screen lcdGlobal Texture resolution...Very HighAnisotropic...16xAnti-alising...4xLevel of detail...LargeMesh complexity...100Mesh Resolution...1mTexture Resolution...1mWater effects...Mid 2.xScenery complexity...NormalAutogen Density...NormalSpecial Effects...highCloud Coverage...mediumAirline Traffic...10%General Aviation Traffic...10%Airport density...mediumRoad Vehicles...15%Ships and leisure boats...10% eachThe ONLY tweak i applied was i set my TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=160.I'm anxious to try the other tweaks listed in these forums...to get even better performance. But i'm totally satisfied right now....with the settings i listed....i have my frames locked at 20...and it never waivers. Even at KSEA...20fps. The sim looks awesome and smooth. I've seen other people with the same or better specs post about poor performance...but i'm totally satisfied. I guess what i'm saying is there is hope...with the right hardware...FSX can be a very enjoyable sim. Understand that i'm not bragging...but i just got so ###### at the performance i was getting that i did what i did and now i'm loving it. Looking forward to even better performance with DX10. Guess i'm one of the lucky ones.

Man, something has got to be messed up with that new setup, cause I have a measly 4400+ X2 processor, no DDR2 no raid, and get 16-18 fps with the same settings, except my autogen is sparse, and my scenery complexity is dense. I think you can squeeze out a little more out of that setup.

Awesome dude, I've been saying this all along, the only thing I would disagree with is the amount of money you spent, I only spent $1500 as I already had a monitor, yoke, joystick, and 5.1 speakers.Jeff

SergeyI'm sure that i could do better ...i guess i'm just scared to try..lolLike i said...i'm totally happy with a rock solid 20fps...i'd rather have that then a jerky 30. I'm sure over the next few days i'll be pushing it a little farther until i get disappointed..then back off a bit :)

I never ran ai less than 70% in any previous version but I'm left to the default settings of 15% otherwise my system will sink into the abyss.P4 3.6 GHz HT 1 gig ddr ram ATI X800XT 256 mb PCIe

Before you get too depressed :) This was a starting point...as i said earlier...i'm definately gonna push it farther until i see a drop...i'll definately let you know what settings make it happen.
