contrary to popular belief, fsx on my machine does change its behaviour depending on ht settings. when i disable ht, textures take much longer to load and some never load at all (regardless of distance from the aircraft--i've seen black opaque windshield textures in some cases). i can turn this behaviour on and off simply by disabling or enabling hti'm a bit puzzled--any hardware experts out there?

You are absolutely correct- ACES confirmed that FSX uses multiple cores to load/stream data.

Hi Vilk:To be more specific (and I can't claim to be an expert on this), there is another thread which FSX uses for scenery decompression/loading which Windows may choose to assign to another CPU core when present; whether one can manually assign that affinity on a multi-core computer I don't know as I don't have a multi-core computer (yet!)BTW, does anyone know if using compressed drives slows down the scenery load times for FSX since many if not all the textures themselves are already compressed now?(see: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=357833&page= )Hope this helps!:-) GaryGB

>You are absolutely correct- ACES confirmed that FSX uses>multiple cores to load/stream data.HT has nothing to do with multiple cores. HT is available on single core processors for a few years now. The difference is that a multicore CPU can *really* execute 2 threads or processes at the same time while a HT CPU basically only improves the overall utilization of internal CPU resources when multiple threads are ready to run on the same processor. In some cases, HT can improve the multithreading behaviour of applications significantly and since FSX does use background threads to load textures, the "HT effect" may be noticeable. And even on dualcore processors, HT can improve the overall throughput for multithreaded applications.
