video recordings of the previews

Featured Replies

Many posts explain artifacts or stuttering in the FS20 video previews by the recording, often referring to the OBS software. I've never noticed this kind of problem in my Nvidia ShadowPlay recorded videos. OBS is more demanding on  the hardware ?

Disregarding the fact that you can't use NVidia's Shadowplay if you don't actually have an NVidia GPU (why so many people simply assume everyone has an NVidia GPU is beyond me), which is of course another reason why people aren't going to be using NVidia's Shadowplay. But in practical terms even if you do use an NVidia GPU, a lot depends on whether you are talking about recording, or streaming live, or recording whilst you are streaming live.

OBS is the best solution for this since it is able to practically stream live and record at the same time with less overhead than either Radeon or NVidia's recording/streaming capabilities. These GPU utilities are either limited in how they can - or completely unable to -  stream and record at the same time (sometimes depending on settings and which utility version it is).

OBS however, can stream live and record at the same time because it was designed specifically to do so, which most people do want to do, in order to later also edit a streamed presentation more easily so they can chop it down and have it as some channel content after it was a live stream. The down side to all that is that the compression which OBS puts on stuff so it plays nicely with youtube, is an additional hoop the video has to jump through, and that means it can sometimes glitch or stutter, but the fact that it can do this is outweighed by all the other advantages and capabilities it confers.

Beyond this, OBS has a few more practical whistles and bells related to video production which make it a better choice in this regard too, but there you go.

My post was not exactly meant  to assume anything or to start an umpteenth war Nvidia vs Radeon 😄 . I will leave you that privilege.  Not in this thread if possible though.

But thanks, you clearly answer my interrogation. The rendition is less perfect because OBS  does streaming and recording.  And the preview stutters could very well come from OBS and not the sim.

I have no intention to start streaming anytime soon (Heaven forbid !). So this OBS feature is of little interest for me. I have tried OBS and found it not so user friendly to do and edit a video. If it brings glitches on top of that, that settles it for me for the time being. I will stay with SP and the old wornout  MM with which you can do a lot if you care.Totally passé, I know. Like me.
