October 27, 200619 yr Hi,I have some doubts about textures in Flight Sim X.I'm flying with these texture settings:Global Texture Resolution = very highLevel of Detail Radius = LargeMesh Complexity = 100%Mesh Resolution = 1mTexture Resolution = 7cmOn the contrary all the 3d object and autogen are al minimum levels (in this way I can have a good FPS rate). My doubt is about the quality of the textures that I can see (expecially regarding cities, fields, streets).I'm not really sure butI cannot see fields detailded as the one in the picture attached and all the textures seems to be more crisp than the one in the picture.About these arguments I've some questions for you all:1)Do you know if all the parts of the world, for example nar Milan in Italy where I've tried to fly, are rendered with the same precision or there are areas better than others?2)Is the altitude of the flyer important for textures (i'm flying with a small plane at a very low altitude - less than 100 m)?3) What about textures in FS2004? Are they at the same level of FSX?Please, let me know your experience ....Many thanks
October 27, 200619 yr Sounds like maybe you have the sliders set way to high for what your rig can handle, and it is easily tested: Put the aircraft above a detailed field scene like the one above. Pause the sim, then look at the ground textures. If you can actually see them getting clearer over time then no, you weren't seeing the detailed textures. The other thing you need to note is that the Global Scenery Slider affects ALL texttures - including the ground. So put that to MAX, turn off the autogen and you will also see if the textures improve. You don't say what your computer specs are. That would be a good idea and with Mesh comlpexity set to 100% and mesh resolution to 1 meter you had better have a supercomputer. BTW you are aware that there is NO 1 metre mesh in the default FSX, nor is there any 7cm texture textures, so you are wasting your time putting the settings that high in the sim - 38m mesh at abot 60% complexity and 1 metre textuire resolution is about the limit. The more detailed settings are provided for future developments.Hope this helps.Allcott
October 27, 200619 yr Ciao Enrico,Maximum, default ground texture resolution in FS X is 1 metre, and maximum, default altitude mesh resolution for Italy is 38 metres (LOD 10).If you push the settings to higher resolutions, FS must interpolate the data. The result is that your system dedicates more resources to this, lowering your performance. In addition, interpolating the ground textures to 7 centimetres may render them slightly blurry. Although it is difficult to see that from your images.Try setting your Ground Textures to 1 metre first and see if that clears up the problem for you.As mentioned, Global Textures affect all aspects of the game, and must be set to Extremely High in order to see the highest resolution ground textures. For better performance, set your Mesh to 38 metres. And, if you are always flying at such low altitudes, lower the Level of Detail radius to Low - this setting controls the amount of terrain data that is loaded. At the highest setting, you are loading over 384 MB of terrain data (this does not include all other elements in the game, clouds, aircraft, sounds, ground vehicles, etc.), so your performance will suffer and you are loading distant terrain that cannot be seen from your altitude. As for your questions:1. all parts of the world use the default ground textures, and they all have a maximum resolution of 1 metre;2. At very low altitudes, the ground texture will display its highest resolution, and lower resolution as one climbs to higher altitudes. Everything depends, of course, on the display settings;3. Textures for FS 2004 had a maximum resolution of 4.78 (~5) metres per pixel. This means that FS X textures have 16 times the resolution of FS 2004 textures!Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
October 27, 200619 yr My computer specs are:ACER 5023wlmiAMD TURION 64 1.8 ghzATI X700 256mbRAM 1GbWhat do you think about detail levels for this configuration? Thanks again
October 27, 200619 yr Enrico, you have 10 times the computer that I have and I run with Global Textures - Extremely HighGround Textures - 1 metreMesh - 38 metresLOD radius - LowScenery Complexity - DenseAutogen - NormalAll I have changed is to remove the xml autogen (lose a lot of objects that way, though!) and resize and compress cloud textures. And I am happy, so with your system you should get very good performance as well.Bet regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
October 27, 200619 yr Author One of the things I found at least on my rig is you need to go outside the sim to your video properties-and crank the antialiasing, anisotropic, and quality settings all the way up to high quality.I also set the fiber frame at .44-helps to keep them sharp. See if that helps.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
