GNS 530 and VOR issue

Featured Replies

How can I get the AST VOR to show up on the main blue ? You can see all VOR's even low ones that are 100nm away with DIS and BRG when they should be 40nm.

Hi FPStewy,

If I understand you correctly, I think I'm having the same problem and my guess is that it's a bug. I'm attaching the image to try and clarify my problem and see if it's the same as you:

So just for the sake of illustrating it, I'm at Acapulco airport (MMAA) drinking a piña colada. The frequency for "ACA" VOR is 115.9 which as you can see, marked in red, is already set on the VLOC, both on GNS 530 (and 430). However, neither VOR, RAD or DIS below the standby frequency of the 530, nor on the main panel of 430, DIS, DTK or BRG is shown!! At first I thought it had something to do with me not having entered a flight plan or something (even though that would beat my purpose of using it as simple DME), but after some Google searching, supposedly it should be working even without an active plan. I went as far as to even download Garmin's old training software for this specific equipment and test setting a near VOR frequency. As expected, VOR ID, current RAD and DIS to the VOR is displayed.

This has been really frustrating because I've spent all afternoon trying to figure this out...

Please let me know if you are having the same problem.

Best!

I applaud your efforts, but it appears this is item number 378 in the list of things that don’t work in MSFS avionics. Of all the things not to work, this one is a big head scratcher because the DME functionality is implemented in the G1000. I would think this would have been a very easy piece of code to drop into the 530.

Chris

Thanks for your reply snglecoil,

Lol, at least it gives me peace of mind having some certainty in that it is an acknowledged issue. Yesterday I was also browsing MSFS forums and it appears that, as you say, there are a number of things not yet being implemented or not working as they should. Too bad nowadays software is rushed to launch so they give incomplete products to their customers (who, like me, keep purchasing it either way.. 🙈) Anyway, some things for others... I absolutely LOVE MSFS's graphics, but in this case, I prefer practical realism before aesthetics. Back to X-Plane for the time being I guess.

It seems the problem in the GNS530 has been fixed with latest patch. However, I can't seem to get the GNS430 to show VOR distance or bearing when tuned into...

apart from the flight plan display nothing else was fixed as far as I can tell.
