October 30, 200619 yr I'm loving the FSX so far, but hit a bit of a problem that prevents me from doing IFR flights (it affects VFR as well but not as much). Basically, about 10-20 minutes into the flight, when the ATC gives me a new heading or altitude (or both), when I open up the box to reply - it's blank! Yep, there are no responses, just a blank box with the ATC text - it's as if my radio wasn't switched on, but it is! Because of this, the controller keeps going "Please respond", then terminates my IFR. Ironically, when he starts saying "Such-and-such, IFR services terminated" THEN I can confirm the order, but by then it's already too late. It's bloody annoying because you spend time setting up the flight, taxiing to the runway, taking off - and then BAM! You can't continue unless you file the plan again mid-flight. Unfortunately, I don't want to re-file the plan every 20 minutes. How can I fix this? I still have FS9 installed and I also downloaded the changed FLTSIM.flt file to start with engines shut down. So far, those are the only changes I've done to the default FSX installation so far (apart from doing some graphical tweaks). I'm pretty sure it's something I've done seeing as how I didn't have this problem before.
October 30, 200619 yr What happens when you press '1' even though you can't see anything? ('1' is usually the option you need to aknowledge.) Maybe you just can't see the options while they are working...? Just guessing. But even if that works it's not how it's meant to be, of course...I sometimes can't choose an option even when I see them: the keypresses don't seem to be registered. Luckily you can also click on an option!
October 30, 200619 yr If your in a mission you have no option on ATC. If you have this problem on free flight then I'm stumped!RobEngland
October 30, 200619 yr I'm experiencing the very same problem, and it does happen in free flight. And no, pressing the 1 key, or the any other key for that matters, doesn't solve the problem. This has already been reported on the forum, but no definitive solution seems to have been found, though somebody said that clickng with the mouse on the ATC instruction (or on the blank part of the ATC window, I can't remember) cured the problem. It only seems to happen on IFR flight plans, and it takes a while to show. Sometimes, the problem cures by itself if ATC gives you another instruction (as may happen during final approach when ATC issues a series of instrucitons). But if you're in cruise, your out of luck: radar service terminated.Certainly something to report to MS.Pietro.EDIT: OK I've found the link to the previous thread, scroll down 'cause the first posts are about taxi lights.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search
October 30, 200619 yr Well, what a coincidence! Tonight I had the same problem for the first time: an empty ATC window (the bottom, that is). I couldn't chose an option and ATC kept asking to acknowledge the message. But I got the solution too (it worked for me anyway): I hit Alt-Enter (to go to windowed mode) and there were the options! (I also switched to IE (this forum): maybe that helped too). So, when you're having this problem again, hit Alt-Enter, and if that doesn't do the trick) switch to another program for a second. I'm curious if this will help others too or if I just had plain luck. ;)
October 31, 200619 yr Nope, thanks for the link, but nothing I tried works. Man, this is annoying. How am I supposed to fix this???
October 31, 200619 yr I have the same problem. It has happened a number of times. Seems to happen more often if I undock the ATC window and move it to my second monitor.I believe it is a keyboard focus issue. The ATC window does not have keyboard focus usually, especially if you are clicking things in the main view, like autopilot and such.I found that if I get keyboard focus into the ATC window then the text shows up. So if you click inside the ATC window, or re-dock the ATC window, the text pops back into existence.Try docking and undocking the ATC window. That seems to work most consistently.
October 31, 200619 yr Er... anyone read my tip to Alt-Enter to windowed mode (and back)? That worked for me...
October 31, 200619 yr >Er... anyone read my tip to Alt-Enter to windowed mode (and>back)? That worked for me...^^ ill try that next time im in single player mode, however im being absoultly dominated by VATSIM at the moment ;)btw I emailed tell_fs about this & the bad multiplayer connectivity.
November 5, 200619 yr Anyone already got a working fix for this? My own 'fix' doesn't work (alt-enter)... I'm getting it more often that I can't acknowledge a message... :( Just now I was forced to file my flightplan all over again 3 times during a half an hour flight...! (Man, am I glad you can file a flightplan while flying... ;))
November 7, 200619 yr >Er... anyone read my tip to Alt-Enter to windowed mode (and back)? That worked for me...Nope, tried that but it didn't work for me...Still scratching my head on this one,Pietro.
November 7, 200619 yr First of all, I have little to no problems, but I think it may because of two things. First of all, I start all sessions with the ATC window closed. Sometimes however when I am flying the options don't show or I cannot select a key input that makes an impact. When this happens I just hit the tilde "~" key and close and repop up the window, which fixes any issue.
November 7, 200619 yr That doesn't work here (first thing I tried of course ;)). As soon as the options are gone from the window they will only game back (immediately!) as soon as the IFR plan is cancelled! Which is very irritating. I also found that this problem of disappearing options seems somehow depended on where you are flying. Not sure yet, but I had a flight where IFR was cancelled 3 times. When I did that same flight all over again I got the same problems, while another flight went perfectly!
