How to uninstall

Featured Replies

I bought MSFS2020 through MS-Store using an Amazon voucher - installation was traumatic (very little guidance, and several download options without any clues as to which to download). After lots of attempts, I almost got the game to run, but "press any key to continue" didn't do anything. Next time I tried to run I eventually got to a cockpit and a training session, but some things just wouldn't respond. In the end, I gave up, got a refund from Amazon.

I love flight simulators (have had X-Plane for a long time) and was keen to have this but for the time being I need to give up and reclaim my HD space and my time. I'll try again some time in the future when the product has been fixed.

But this is by-the-by, and just in way of explaining why I now need to uninstall. I've hunted all over, and none of the suggestions seem to work.

Can anyone point me at a definitive guide to uninstalling

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but as I said, I've tried all the suggestions I've come across (including these two) and none of them seem to work (and yes, I Googled)

MSFS2020 and its 100GB of data is still installed.

These are the steps I took to uninstall the Deluxe Premium Edition also purchased from the Microsoft Store. We are really in new territory here, only a few of us apparently having to remove the program. The following steps cleaned up my system.

1. Just to be safe and wanting to make sure I was able to remove the Large 108GB folder from my dedicated Flight Sim SSD, I first moved it to an external hard drive. By doing this I at least guaranteed that I could reclaim the space on the SSD.  I did this by following the attached YouTube video, and it worked perfectly.  This left 3 empty folders on the Flight Sim SSD,   was able to only to delete one of them, the "Program FIles" and "WindowsApps" remained. Windows 10 would not allow me to remove them. Still working on that but at least all the space was removed from the SSD. I just created a new folder copied them into it and placed it in another folder out of sight.

2. Then I right clicked on the Microsoft Flight Simulator app and selected "Uninstall". This removed the app and after that I was able to go to the external HD and remove the large 108GB Folder, but again was unable to remove the empty Program Files and WindowsApps folders. The move to the external drive first may have been unnecessary but was not willing to take the chance. I must say I have never seen a more user unfriendly installation or uninstall  process in any Microsoft Software.

Hope this helps,

Many thanks - mine is also the DP Edition - I'll give this a go. I'm copying the large MS Flight Sim folder now.

However, I've already tried using the uninstall option on the app. It finishes almost instantly, and the app is still there. There also seems to be a lot of left-overs in the WindowsApps folder (once I eventually managed to gain access to it).

It seems to be a truly arcane installation and uninstall. As the vast majority of beta testers are inevitably highly motivated to play the game, but may not be so interested in having a critical process eye, these sorts of issues seem to get ingrained in some games.

My biggest concern is what  remnants are left in the registry that could get in the way of a future purchase/install.

Just as I posted that I went back to have a look, and the Flight Simulator seems to have gone. Maybe it takes several hours? I haven't yet deleted the MS Flight Sim folder.

Glad that you are able to make some progress. At least we will regain usable space. So far I can find no other related files, but like you I wonder about the registry. I will save that potential problem for another day. The install/uninstall process and way the file structure is set up is so "Ugly" I doubt that I would even attempt to repurchase and install again.

I will continue to fly Prepar3D V4.5 with Radar Contact V4, Orbx Scenery and UTLive for the foreseeable Future. It runs exceptionally well on my system. I did meet the "Recommended" requirements for MS Flight Simulator 2020 and was very surprised at the numerous issues that I had.
