At the risk of sounding like a place-name-dropper, I did see a little bit of Moscow on the same trip round the 'Stans in the 80s. Mostly only what the "guides" wanted us to see (they had very fit looking guides back then), and way before any modern stuff like in the last shots. Lots of statues and flags.
