Hi Pete,

Thanks for the suggestion.  At this point I think I will wait and see what the Zenfolk come up with.  I have spent an unbelievable number of hours trying to get this to work, and I really don't want to put in any more time.  In around twenty years of flight simming I have never run into so much trouble getting any version of FS or an addon to work -- and so far without success, and with rather minimal support from the MSFS people. 

Meanwhile I've got FSX!  Currently flying EGLL to FAOR in a 777, running reasonably smoothly.

Reporting back on solution:

I was stuck for about a week at the "Press Any Key" screen.

After upgrading to Windows 2004, the key fix was to uninstall the Discord App. (It's in MSFS' list of apps causing problems with MSFS, but rather surprising given its connection with MSFS!). That got me to the "Servers unavailable" screen, which I fixed by using XBox Console Companion, logging out and back into my account. This was suggested by MSFS forum users here:
