HELP Reinstalling - big problems

Featured Replies

Hi All

I posted this in the MSFS Forum but I’m reposting here in case anyone can help, as I’ve had a lot help from people on this  forum in the past.

I’ve had an unfortunate problem with reinstalling MSFS (of my own making I have to admit). I am running the MSFS version from Microsoft Store.

I should have installed the whole thing onto my D drive at first, but when I originally installed in August, I put the packages folders on my C: drive. My C: drive is small, and predicatably soon ran out of space making other problems for Windows.

So I thought I would amend the config file (location of Community etc) then cut and paste my packages folder to my D: drive. I did not think this through. There are copy paste issues with these files (and ownership issues on my PC). So when I cut (instead of copied) the folders they arrived on my D: drive but without any of their data. So I instantly lost my installation! doh!

Anyway I tried to reinstall the 1.9.5 version and it said around 66Gb needed to be installed. It got to about 16% (32Gb) and it ground to a halt. So I aborted it.

Since then Microsoft Store says MSFS is still installed, and when I try to install again it just gives an error. I can get the number but there’s no explanation.

I have deleted the packages directory, but cannot delete the WinApps directory - the MSFS directory, as that is fiercly protected - even kill box can’t delete it.

So - please any help anyone can give me what to do next, I would be incredibly grateful - I am suffering MSFS withdrawal systems - so chaps - it’s serious

Aborted patch update just as it started through Microsoft store as I had forgotten to delete my community addons first...then the problems began. Patch would not update then Xbox live beta would not play ball. Made the mistake of deleting everything I could to reinstall but the Xbox app reinstallation hangs up. Also made the mistake of deleting my paid addons. Anyway, couldn’t face the messing around so bought through steam as my Microsoft installation was on Xbox live subscription anyway . All good apart from losing paid addons through marketplace. Installing from orbx still works. Happier with steam as Xbox \ Microsoft store has always been problematic for me wanting base apps updated first.
