November 13, 200619 yr i have checked all options in fsx/settings/display/traffic but am not seeing aircraft labels in spot view. can anyone tell me how to get aircraft labels, including 'users aircraft', to display? also, is it possible to show heading and speed?steve chavin
November 14, 200619 yr Author Hi Steve,Unless something is "broke" you should be able to see nearby AI labels. The label range is probably the same as FS9 - about 10 miles. While you would normally set this in the sim, just for grins look in the FSX.cfg at the "AContain" section to see what is turned on or off:ShowLabels=1 -------------<< make sure this is 1 for ONShowUserLabel=0 ----------<< this labels YOU if "1"ShowLabelManufacturer=1ShowLabelModel=1ShowLabelTailNumber=0ShowLabelDistance=1 ------<< you may also want this oneShowLabelAltitude=1ShowLabelAirline=0ShowLabelAirlineAndFlightNumber=0ShowLabelFlightPlan=0 ----<< this shows the from/to airportsShowLabelContainerId=0ShowLabelAirspeed=0 -----<< this is one you inquired about;mine is currently offShowLabelHeading=0 -------<< this is one you inquired about;mine is currently offLabelDelay=1000 ----------<< miliseconds per catagory (1sec)LabelColor=FFFF0000 ------<< red default// Yellow is more visible to meIf you install the TRAFFICTOOLBOX.DLL from the SDK installation (DVD1/Deluxe Only) you get all these options plus a whole lot more ai management/viewing stuff.Hope this helpsLoyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
November 14, 200619 yr lloyd;thanks for the helpful reply. i checked in fsx.cfg and found all the entries you listed. the entry for user label is 1, as entered in the sim settings. in spite of this, i fail to see the labelling over my aircraft. i have noted aan occasional ai flight which is labelled and perhaps the lack of labelling for the ai craft is due to my setting being too low at this time (i am still setting up fsx). but the absence of user ac label is puzzling to me. do you have any other thoughts or suggestions about where to look or how to correct the deficiency?thanks very much for your help.steve chavin
November 14, 200619 yr Author Steve,I tried lowering any relevant setting and my user tag is still showing...One thing to consider: what labels?from the in-sim menu I can only choose model, manufacturer, tail, distance and altitude. These should show up on ALL ac.If you choose something only the commercial would have like Airline or Airline and flight number from the FSX.cfg or SDK addon, then GA ac would remain blank because they have neither. The combination of features can be misleading also. Suppose I select ModelAirline and Flight NumDistanceAll AC will cycle between the three label types but if I glance at a GA during the time that Airline and Fl# are to be shown there will be nothing over the GA because there is no info to display for that catagory. This has tripped me more than once.Another thing I've noticed is (and I may be wrong or forgetful here) that sometimes I'm sure I've noticed labels on taxiing AC and sometimes not - maybe they have to be moving. When they are stationary waiting to take off they might not show labels. Sleeping AC definitely don't show labels. Seems like landing AC lose the label after they've touched down and are pulling off the runway. Maybe there's a different distance setting for those conditions - just not sure. One thing I guess should be sure: AC flying in your vicinity should be displaying labels if you have the feature turned on with catagories enabled that all AC have. I can see my self-label just the same as the others. FS9 loses labels at about 10 miles. The only way you'd see AC that far away without labels is by contrail or their lights at night (they seem to show for about 40+ miles or so, I think). If you are 'just getting started' then little would be lost if you did a "repair" of the install. Back up anything you might have changed and try it. I'm out of ideas.Good Luck.Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
December 28, 200619 yr Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same problem. I can see labels of other aircraft, but not my own. I originally had them, but after I tried to optimize graphics setting, they no longer appear...even if I reset to default settings.
