November 17, 200619 yr Hi,i didn't see it mentioned here, and even Horizonsimulation's frontpage isn't updated yet, so i thought i let you know. The VFR GenerationX England and Wales scenery for FSX is available now!!Cheers,Michael
November 17, 200619 yr http://www.horizonsimulation.com/forums/index.phpLists the current problems that early adopters are experiencing. Far from being `compatible`, the DVD's as released are NOT compatible with a default FSX.The cost of a rush to beat the `other` product to market, I guess. But certain reason to wait to purchase until the issues have been ironed out.If only I'd used the same policy for FSX!Allcott
November 17, 200619 yr Can you link me to some of those problem posts please? I don't see anything there with regards to problems.
November 17, 200619 yr Sure, try these few, in just a day or so of release:Disks will not loadhttp://www.horizonsimulation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=238Jerky animationhttp://www.horizonsimulation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=237Default airfields floating/no excludes for photo scenery positioninghttp://www.horizonsimulation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=235Coastlines http://www.horizonsimulation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=225I believe that scenery addons intended for FSX should actually be compatible for the default product at time of release, not need patches to make them so. No-one can reasonably expect a bug-free product, but failing to make the photoscenery compatible with FSX default airfields and airports is not excusable as a patch. AFCADs should have been included at launch. As with VFR Photo scenery before it, this shows huge promise, particularly with the new 5m mesh. But if they have QC problems with the DVD's released to market, and the product does NOT interract correctly with the sim in its default state, I don't thinnk that's a product that's quite ready for market.Give it time and I have no doubt that it will be - the autogen option for next year will make this a must-have if the other bugs have been ironed out by then and will even have relevance for flight schools and real-world flying training in the UK.Allcott
November 17, 200619 yr Hi,i think it's not too fair to judge on the fact of only 2 or 3 complaints in their forum.I will see it for myself, i will get the sceneries in the next days. And i am very confident, because this is an ongoing project with a lot of heartblood of the developers in it.Cheers,Michael
November 18, 200619 yr Of course its fair to judge, based on the nature of the complaint, and the response of the developer! The one's I quoted are all `known` bugs, accepted as such by the developers and with fixes said to be in hand or in testing. Clear acceptance that these are not islated problems, but the combined experiences of many early adopters that have highlighted issues with the released product. So knowing that, it is of course your choice if you wish to buy a flawed product based on the promise of a fix. Personally, I prefer to wait until the fixes are available, and shown to work.If you don't fly near the coast, ever fly from an airfield or airport, and have the ability to install a faulty DVD then I agree, these may not be showstoppers for you. But they indicate to me a lack of care or of concern for the consumer, which is a little worrying, particularly when they're already trotting out the excuse that the developer is busy working 19 hours a day and has a baby on the way. Why should a customer who has paid money for the product care? Its their responsibility to provide the product in a usable state, not family histories or the work pattern of the supplier. FSX fast (well, slow) seems to be becoming the centre for excuses, not results.Allcott
November 18, 200619 yr I received it this morning. The first scenery section installed and worked perfectly. It's pretty amazing. I flew over my village and I could see my own house easily.I just installed another section while reading these posts. It just finished installing (this was a mere 5 Gb section) so I must fly. It's disappointing that it does require extra downloads or DVD's (e.g. the night lighting) but I'd rather have it now as it's perfectly useable in its current state.Best regards, Chris
November 18, 200619 yr I can't make heads or tails of that website myself. Are all the locations finished or just one of them? Can you download this or does it have to be purchased on dvd and shipped? Thanks for the links too Allcott.
November 18, 200619 yr There is a flyable demo you can download (Snowdonia, it looks superb). The product ships on three sets of DVD's, each set with approx. 30 Gb of data (a big download, even with broadband!)It's not that difficult to find the info you want and there are several very useful forums.Best regards, Chris
November 18, 200619 yr Forget the website, go straight to the forums. It gives more information, in a more easily assimilated form.Basically, you're looking at 3xDVD per `volume`, with three volumes separately covering the South/SouthWest England and South Wales (Vol. 1), Midlands/Mid Wales (Vol. 2) and the North of England and Norht Wales (Vol. 3) in horizontal swathes. Map here:http://horizonsimulation.com/shopuk/index....id=210#CoverageEach volume can be purchased separately for
