GPS 500 Tutorial?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a "good", easy to understand GPS tutorial for the one used in FSX. I can fly insturment approaches and such but have never tried to navigate too much with GPS. Interested in learning what its capabilities are.ThxTurnipSystem Specs:Motherboard = P5-GL-MXP4 3.0SB LiveATI Radeon X800 GTO (256) Overclocked to 550 Core / 525 Mem2 Gb Geil PC3200 Dual Channel RAM

Hi Turnip,All flightsim education is "Web Based". You can start with the GPS500 section in the built-in "Learning Center" and spend a week or so absorbing as much as you can. Then go to the FAA site and download the free manuals there on Navigation - or reverse the order. Search all the major sites (here and elsewhere) where folks have already posted all the frequenly asked questions. Then you'll be ready to ask for the remaining knowledge among the users here. And don't forget the in-Sim flying lessons which may include GPS usage. The GPS instruments require some study time to really understand all the features; then practice using it.Like I just this year learned that it will display "transitions" -- I don't use or need them but there are folks here who do and will help you along... after you've done your 'homework'Loyd

Turnip,If you don't mind paying about $20, a gentleman named Tim Mandeville has published a series of good video-based tutorials which are available for download. He has one specifically for the Garmin 500. I brought it a few years ago and was quite pleased with it. Very easy to understand and step-by-step. Turnip, you need to look into your FS9 Learning Centre. There's a video in there that if you do what I did, run it and pause as you follow it's instruction and you soon get to grips with the functions.Just a cheap suggestion?
