November 20, 200619 yr This thread follows on from a previous one.To reduce the reflections in the cockpit windows to any intensity I did the following as shown as an example for the Grumman Goose:1. Find the file: grumman_goose_g21a_reflection.dds in the goose aircraft texture folder. Save a copy as grumman_goose_g21a_reflection_bak.dds2. Open the original file with Martin Wright
November 20, 200619 yr Could you PLEASE post the new file, then we can rename it to any aircraft? Thanks a lot, Howard Jetline Systems: Intel 8th Gen Core i7 8700K (4.8GHz Overclock); GTX 1080 Ti; LG Curved UltraWide 3440x1440 Monitor .
November 20, 200619 yr Perhaps this could be a project for someone with the required software and knowledge to produce for the community:A download which contains, say, 25, 50 and 75% opacity options for all the default aircraft. Just a thought! Max
November 21, 200619 yr Unfortunately the file will be different for each aircraft since you have to use the reflective texture file *_reflection.dds plus a blue mask for each different aircraft.Re
November 21, 200619 yr Nice catch, works very well!!!Just a few minutes of work....Thanks for the trouble and your time.ed "It's ALL about Flying" i7-9700k @5ghz | 32gb Gskill Ripjaw 5 DDR4 3000 | Nvidia RTX 4080 | W10 Pro | Samsung 32" 4K TV | Virpil Throttle & Pedals | Winwing Stick
November 21, 200619 yr Also as much I would like to post the % files for all aircraft in the Library they contain Microsoft textures which means issues of copyright and this would not be allowed by Avsim as indicated in their conditions of upload. Sorry.
November 21, 200619 yr Author >PS: I have found no disernable difference in fps with>reflections on or off on my system.I don't think there should be any difference in terms of FPS.I believe the window reflections are not "real", that is they don't change with the angle of the sun, there are no computations involved, no extra GPU processes; it's simply a fixed texture, whose size we didn't change. As long as the reflection.dds texture is loaded, nothing should change in terms of performance. I don't know what would happen if the reflection.dds file were to be deleted.Your tweak is much welcome however as I too thought reflections were a bit overdone in FSX.Pietro.
November 23, 200619 yr CorrectionAfter a bit more experimentation the rectangle color should be black (ie Red=0; Green=0; Blue=0). While the color given before works fine during the day I noticed a definite green tint at night in other aircraft windows that was not very apparent in the Goose. For those who might want to copy and file it
