GTN series supporting 8.33 khz spacing?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Since prepar3d v5 8.33 khz frequency spacing is supported and the Garmin Trainer itself also supports it. As European airspace is so tight they rely a lot on that instead of the older 25 kHz spacing. And as I use the Navigraph based airspace data by FSAerodata I need a device that supports 8.33 spacing. The default radios do but my F1 GTN Complete unit does not. Like I said, the Garmin Trainer also supports it but the issue is the F1 interface between trainer and sim. F1 has confirmed it is not supported and hinted that is unlikely to change as it is not exactly a best seller.

So here is my question:

does RXP GTN support 8.33khz spacing? Any of you able to dial in for example 118.830 and it stays that and does not change automatically to 118.825?

Not being able to reach some ATC services is annoying, you might win a customer here 😉

Yes. The option is in the RXP GTN in the System Setup, COM/NAV page.

Excellent, thanks for your reply!

To clarify: You mean if I go to the GTN home screen, there setup / settings and then Com/Nav? F1 GTN also allows for that but their interface between Garmin Trainer and sim still changes the numbers on its own as it doesn´t support 8.33.

So if you dial in for example 118.830 it will stay that with the RXP unit?

F1, or better the underlying Garmin Trainer allows the entry but the F1 interface / module / part of the program / whatever you want to call it will change it to 118.825 the instant you click enter (or 118.82 in 25 khz mode). Essentially P3D v5 supports 8.33, the Garmin Trainer supports it, too, but the F1 module sitting in between the two does not! If the RXP module does not get in the way of sim and Garmin Trainer that would be excellent and I would really consider changing over.

Neat, thanks for your reply. Actually F1 now also has added 8.33 kHz support. Hard to make a choice now...

I'd go with the one that updates most frequently and timely, and has a number of fellow users lurking around to help.

Good point!
Next time an update for P3D comes out or perhaps (one´s allowed to dream...) the capabilities of the Garmin 750Xi are simulated (glide rings for engine out <3 ) I will!
Thanks for your advice!
