December 12, 20205 yr I am really liking this plane so far, but ran into a weird issue with setting the VSI. I meant to start a descent, so I click down on the VS wheel a few times to set my desired rate. Anyway, it acted like I kept clicking, even though I stopped, and the wheel kept spinning. Before I figured out what was going on, my descent rate was 5000+ fpm and I ended up overstressing the plane and "died." In retrospect, my first move probably should've been to disable the AP. Has anyone else had this happen? Also, as far as using the AP, does the ALT button hold the current altitude? What is the best way to go about changing altitudes. What I've been doing is using the altitude dial to set my desired altitude, and then I'll hit VSI and choose a climb or descent rate with the wheel. Finally, what's the best way to go about using/adjusting the prop pitch? It seems that even if I change the pitch, the RPMs just go back to what they were before. It's almost as if some kind of auto adjustment is going on. I've flown a few real planes with variable pitch props, but it's been a long time, and I forget the basics.
December 13, 20205 yr As far as the clicking, use the mouse scroll instead to avoid that issue. Had that happen the other day, luckily I was on the ground pre setting the vs. The Alt bound sets your current altitude and holds it. Pre patches I was using FLC as it was less twitch when turning on the autopilot after takeoff. Now I use the VS after presetting it prior to takeoff so it doesn't break the descent. Either or will work. Leave the prop pitch at full. The throttle controls the prop angle since it's a constant pitch prop.

Yeah, I did eventually figure out that the mouse scroll can be used, too. I had to laugh earlier when ATC told me to expedite my descent. I clicked that dang VS wheel, and it glitched, and next thing I know I'm dive bombing the ground. I like this TBM a lot so far. I am coming from X-plane 11, and my go-to there was the Eclipse jet. The avionics in that are great, and so is the speed. It would be nice to have that in MSFS, but the TBM is definitely no slouch. I am totally new to this version of MSFS. Are there liveries out there for these planes?

FLC for climb and VS for descent. SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.
