Unpredictable Frame Rates

Featured Replies

My system is marginal to run FSX - I know that. Most of the time it's OK, sliders on Medium High - I can live with sub 10FPS for short periods of time, and I can bump one slider up and see the shiny water as long as I am out in the country! From time time (usually just after landing at SFO) when I am preparing myself for a period of 6-9 FPS the frame rates will drop to 1 frame every 10secs, if you are patient enough and wait, after about 5mins the frame rates return to normal (or normal for my system at SFO) - this seems a little odd. Any ideas?GeoffSystem is P4 3.0GHz with 1GB dual channel memory and an Nvidia 7600GS graphics card. ASUS P4P 800 Mother Board.

I am not, by any stretch, a hardware expert, but I think what you are experiencing are stutters (momentery drops in FPS). It could be that something is running in the background that takes away memory from your system. Perhaps after 5 minutes the process in the background is done with its job.c Make sure you close all none essential processes before you start the sim. There is a program, I beleive, called End it all that does it automatically. Also, if you can, upgrade your ram to 2mb. I can really help with stutters.

I've got a pretty kick-*ss system, AMD FX-60 oc'ed to 2.81, 2gb corsair, 2x 7900GTX in SLI mode, DFI LanParty mobo and I would get that same 1fps that you're talking about, after flying a little while.I had my settings not maxed of course (no system on the planet can handle that!) but pretty close, would get 13-15fps at KSEA sitting on the active. After takeoff, over downtown Seattle at 1500-2000 feet I'd be getting 15-18. But within 5 - 15 minutes after takeoff, the frames would crash to 1-2 fps and not recover without a restart of FSX :( Had this same thing happen at a number of airports.I finally found a post here somewhere that suggested the BufferPools .cfg mod might have something to do with that. I'd done that mod and set PoolSize to 7000000, so I went and deleted it. Never had the problem again! I've since put it back in, at 3000000 and no probs yet.If you've done that mod, you might try taking it out temporarily and see if that helps!

Yep, I think thats it...Took the bufferpools mod out of the .cfg and it seems OK so far.Geoff
