Carenado 206 and icing in FSX

Featured Replies

Just wondering what might be causing a loss of MP I'm experiencing shortly after takeoff. Here's the ActiveSky METAR for the area tonight during the flight. KPDX 280715Z 00000KT 10SM BKN012 BKN050 BKN065 01/M01 A2992 RMK AO2OAT averaged aroung 20 degrees F at 3500' AGL.The 206 climbed out on the numbers, I leveled into cruise at 3500' then within minutes the MP gradually decreased until the IAS dropped to near stall speeds. The prop RPM remained unaffected. The same thing happened to me at YVR in some REAL nasty wx, low cloud and snow and cold, but tonight was rather benign. Is this a symptom of carb icing ?Anyone else experience this in FSX with the Carenado ?If I clear the wx the condition goes away.EDIT: after some more testing the sweetspot seems to be an OAT of 20 F...below that and she starts to struggle.cheersGreghttp://www.fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpg

And uniquely for this version of FS, it doesn't always work. If the icing is heavy enough, no amount of carb heating works - had this in the Baron out of Friday Harbor with Active Sky weather a week or so back. That's a major step forward in my book.Allcott

Shouldn't happen in the Baron. It has fuel injection (no carb) and an alternate air flapper in the air box of the inlet that opens to let air in if the inlet ices.Ex Baron Owner,Ed Weber

All fuel injected engines now ice up. I noted the Mooney 'prop heat' switch de-iced the engine. RAF

>> CARB HEAT ON, That's the answer! >>No switch for this in the 206 so I mapped a button/key assignment from within FSX. Should that work with a 3rd party AC ?BTW I just went up for another flight...CWAS 281800Z 11008KT 20SM FEW037 BKN049 M08/M14 A3031...up to 8500' with OAT between 3-6 F and could maintain MP of 21 with no drop. Colder temps but higher pressure.cheersgreg http://www.fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpg
