Use Old Flight Sim Manager in FSX

Featured Replies

Flight Sim Manager by Rana Hossain does not work "as is" in FSX. However, for those who may want to use the program for managing their FSX scenery's, changes can be made to allow FSX Scenery management. All other Flight Sim Manager functions may, or may not, work. My primary need was for scenery management. I like the shortest loading times for FSX which are basically higher than FS9. Therefore, I "turn off" as many Scenery.CFG (Scenery Library) elements as possible depending on my area of choice for flight. I also add a large amount of other scenery elements such as landclass, photo-scenery, modified airports, etc. Leaving all of these active extends load times. Flight Sim Manager allows you to selectively activate BGLs/Scenery's to minimize load time.======================Changes:COPY the FS9.EXE file from the main FSX folder to the same folder where the FSX SCENERY.CFG is. My SCENERY.CFG is in D:Documents and SettingsAll Users.WINDOWSApplication DataMicrosoftFSX folder. This satisfies Flight Sim Manager's need to see the FSX.EXE file.Under the Flight Sim Manager/OPTIONS window select FS2004 and browse to the path of the just copied FS9.EXE. Now Flight Sim Manager will find the SCENERY.CFG file, and FS9.EXE, just as it did in the old FS9/FS2004. SAVE and CLOSE=======================Start the program and click OK on the Unable To Read The Configuration Files error. I think it is looking for the FSX.CFG which is not needed to manage scenery. After loading you will see a blank table/list. This is for aircraft - you want scenery.Click on the Scenery Administrator icon (green mountain) and you should see the FSX scenery library. If not, click on the R to refresh. The program will now function normally to administer FSX scenery.I doubt that there is a way to administer the aircraft since they are now packaged in a new folder structure that is not known to Flight Sim Manager. One other note is that no support is available for this program either in a forum or from the author. However, it is stable and the latest version 2.8.5 is on AVSIM.Dick Boley near 5G8
