parallelism is the future. FSX is still essentially single threaded, but the industy is making it's gains by adding cores.We're at a turning point in desktop software- outside of rendering apps an encoding. Mainstream apps (and games) are now a the point where in order to add features and continue to perform well, they need to be multithreaded. Simple speed bumps to the chips are largely going away- hence the seemingly sudden jump from single to muilticore CPU's, and from dual core to Quad in a very short timeframe.This is great for multitasking and apps that are designed from teh start as multithreaded (Alan Wake?, Falcon 4 AF?) However FSX is really single threaded with light fibers, and it needs a big bump in single threaded performance for us to benefit, but hardware is going in a different direction. My servers here at work are not as powerful as a quad desktop cpu! However the CPU demands on most of my servers are not that high.
