First time overclocking a CPU

Featured Replies

So I have an I9 10900K, and I have gotten it to 5.1ghz. I did some research beforehand on overclocking, and my PC was already overclocked slightly from the PC builder.

Im just looking for anyones input to see if what I am doing will be ok for the hardware

You should compress your pictures before you post them. It takes a long time to load them.

I think your temps are a little high, but 95C is generally the 'accepted' limit. I would not run mine at above 80C because that is an average of temperatures. If your average is 88C, you can bet that some of the cores saw very close to the Intel limit of 100C. I don't run mine that hot. I keep it below 75C. If the ambient temp is above 90F, I'll let it run a little warmer (like me - if I sweat, it can sweat, too). 😄

I've got a brand new 10850k that I'm in the process of overclocking. I'm currently at a very stable 5.0 and I'm lowering the voltages a little at a time to see how far down I can go and still stay running at 5.0. I had a 45 minute flight this morning and package temps were between 48C and 55C.

The only things I've really changed are Vccio and Vcore. Both are set to 1.285v at the moment. Yes, Vccio is typically much lower, but that's what I've always done and it has always worked for me. I have no supporting documentation, but I have built a ZX80 so it's just what I know from time.

Currently, hyperthreading is on. I just turned Speedstep on for the first time since I was tired of hearing the fans run when the computer didn't need to work that hard. So far, it has been jumping right to 5.0 when needed for P3D and dropping to around 1.5Ghz and a temp of 28C when P3D isn't running and I'm browsing. I think I'll leave it on.

Download HWInfo from CPUId. It's great for watching your temps.

At the moment, I'm getting around 36FPS in the NGXu at KBOS gate 34 at night with EA on and 70% AIG traffic (I had to turn that down so I'd have somewhere to park!). I have it set to Winter Wonderland, but there's no snow with EA on. The NGXu windshield snow is working though. This scenario brought my 8600K (@4.8Ghz) to 16-18FPS.
