December 5, 200619 yr Hi guys,I wonder if there is a key to set the trim to keep the current vertical velocity I am going.Example: I am taking off in my Cesna, I pull the stick to get 500 fps in vertical velocity ...AND PRESS THAT KEY to set the trim for that velocity. At this time, I am always rolling the trim up and down to adjust and its a pain.Any trick?
December 5, 200619 yr You need to be pitching for airspeed not vertical speed. This is assuming you're in the cessna or something similar.If you pitch for airspeed your VS should remain somewhat constant. Your weight, outside air temp, etc., will or should play a role in what VS you are able to achieve.So you see you should look at it from a different perspective. Learn your Vy and Vx speeds for your particular aircraft and pitch for those.Also, learn to fly the RPM's to achieve a set airspeed also.You can however set the autopilot for VS if you want.Hope that doesn't confuse things to much. :-) Jeff D. December 5, 200619 yr I forgot to add...don't chase the vertical speed indicator, you'll never be able to be +/- the PTS's for your required altitude.In different aircraft you'll also learn to be able to look outside and take up a constant sight picture to achieve a set attitude.Let the needles come to you not the other way around. :-) Jeff D. At this time, I am always rolling the>trim up and down to adjust and its a pain.>>Any trick?Yep!When rolling on take off, don't pull the stick all the way back when you reach Vr, Instead just ease it back a little way, then use the up elevator trim until the aircraft flies off and then ease the stick back to its centre point, adding trim to compensate. This ensures you are in trim on climbout.But trim is a variable so you cannot trim for a climb rate, but if you are IN trim at that climb rate, and no other changes occur to power, flaps, attitude, airpseed or outside factors, then you should remian pretty much at that rate of climb.It's one thing you will never get from a simulator - trim `feel`. Springs in sticks are not the way things are felt in the real world.FS Force got close for Force feedback sticks in FS9, but there's no news on an FSX version yet.Allcott
