February 5, 20215 yr I'm tempted to get the Realsimgear GFC 500 autopilot as a standalone add-on to my really basic home cockpit setup, and was hoping that I could sit it on top of my Honeycomb Alpha yoke. My question is: Does anyone know if it would sit happily/steadily on top of the yoke housing by itself, or would I need to mount it onto something so that it doesn't move around? I see that realsimgear do sell stands as well, but nothing solely for the GFC 500. I've got no skills/means to make my own stand to mount it on to, so thought I'd check if anyone else has it, and how you use it? Thanks!

I am currently using heavy duty velcro to 'mount' it on top of my cockpit (planning a permanent setup but this is working for now). So far it's been very stable and doesn't move at all. You could do the same with yours on your Alpha. The velcro is removable so you wouldn't have any permanent damage (just need to clean up any residue). As useful as I find the 500, I will still use it even if I had no way of mounting it. 🙂
February 6, 20215 yr Author Ah, great idea! I hadn’t considered something as simple as Velcro (clearly not an engineer here). Everyone else who has this autopilot unit also seems to share your opinion of it. I think I’ll go ahead and bite the bullet. Thanks!

Just wasn't sure what I wanted to do but I wanted the 500 to not just be sitting on the table. Before I bought it, I asked RSG support if it would work with the non-Garmin based autopilots. They said it should and that sold me. It works with every plane I fly, including the Carenado Mooney & Seminole. Definitely grab one if your budget allows. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
